10 Year Old 911??
Hi
I was wondering if anyone else had been brave enough to go down the older 911 route? I REALLY fancy it but am scared I am going to get huge bills. For a shade over 20 grand you can get 2000-2002 models sub 50,000 which look superb.
The fifth gear race of an R reg 911 and a new boxter got me thinking about it again!
I did have a chat with an independent based in Bolton but he gave me the impression I would be looking at a £2k bill just to get it up to scratch.
Any help appreciated.

Intermediate shaft failure is an issue with most of these water cooled engines. Maintenance doesnt seem to affect/prevent it, so you pay your money and you take your chance...

I take it the 2000-2002 model would mean you're looking at the 996? If so go to Pistonheads and search on '996 problems', it may give you some food for thought. I'm not, for one minute, suggesting that all cars suffer these issues, but have a think first.
Secondly, a mate of mine has a 1986 3.2 Carrera. He has just had to pay out for a full engine rebuild at a well renowned independent specialist. I took him down to pick it up and was there when he paid £5577.00 .
This was on top of the £3k he'd left as a deposit
