Default Car Recommedations

The missus is changing jobs and has to reluiqinsh her company car, so we now have to buy one.

Looking for something about 3-4 years old, deisel, practical enough to deal with a 1year old child (not really after a people carrier).....reliable...etc..

Just throwing this out to the Scoooooooby net to see what comes back

Thanks

I'd personally look at the VAG cars - VW (Golf), Audi A4, Skoda... depends whether you want a hatchback or saloon.

The 1.9TDI is a stonking engine and the cars are solid

For VFM, you can't beat a Mondeo TDCi. Try to find a 130bhp model, but the 115bhp isn't bad.

Bin the german stuff, over priced and crude in comparison to the modern diesel engines you get now, look at the mondeo (stonking car ), focus, astra (1.9 cdti 150 if you can as its the 16v engine fitted to alfa's, fiats and a few other marques like saab etc) its also pretty reliable and the most powerful diesel in its class, and pretty refined too

You also have the option of french, but probably suffer with the build quality, if you go for the mondeo, ensure its an 04+ model as they had a few problems rectified by then

I know its sort of a people carrier but my wife has a C-Max Zetec 1.8 TDCi. Its a nice drive, built very well, returns 50-60 mpg and the rear seat arrangment is pretty trick. If you only have two people in the back its like being in a limo (well sort off!!). We were looking at a Mondeo but she liked the taller car and we didn't want to spend S-Max money.

We chose it over the VAG and PSA stuff and are really happy with it.
