BMW D3 Alpina?

Expensive for what is generally a 320d SE (not an Msport!)
The wife looked at them for her company car but seeing as any options you wanted adding would incur a surcharge of £2000 BEFORE the price of the option....
Okay, it's got big wheels and a tweaked engine and a splitter grafted onto a stock SE bumper, a few interior trim extras but nothing special.
All in all, it goes very well.

We had one at work on a 24hr test drive
It was quick and linear in it's power delivery, nice seats etc. It is based on a SE and can be seen as expensive, but compared to the way a M-Sport hangs on it is way ahead.

Andy M3,
I know , I didn't miss that bit, but for most Company car drivers (who're the biggest purchasers) handling just doesn't come into it.
I just couldn't justify a £2K surcharge to get xenons and a CD player!

The D3 does 35mpg, and we have a 177hp 120d M-Sport which averages 42mpg. Not quite 55mpg, although it is better on a run. [In and around South Yorkshire.]

Looks a reaonable combination of all things for all drivers.
Personally, I'd like to see a D1 with the 123d as the base.
They've done a B3 with the *23d engine in the 3er coupe, which is a nice but pricey piece of kit. The 1 series Alpina could be an interesting car.....

Msport is just a style kit anyway: different bumpers, lack of chrome and bigger wheels. Bigger engined versions do have different (re: jiggly) suspension, and a different steering wheel, but the Alpina has that as well.

Wrong, I'm afraid!
All M sport models get the kits but they also get the suspension and interior bits - steering wheel, gear **** and sport seats and 18" wheels as standard (with run flats
Irrespective of engine size.

It seems strange that in the UK the Msport listed as a seperate production car to the SE and ES, whilst most other countries its just a single model - and you chose to have the sports pack in the options list, and that breaks down further into sports parts that are available at extra cost (interior, exterior, suspension etc). Some countries the Sports suspension can be had without the Msport trim, and vica versa ( Might explain why you can order Msport suspension on the UK SE and ES ).
In eastern Europe one can order a 316i with the Msports trim kit but without the sports suspension An oxymoron on wheels.
There is also a "poor road" suspension option (not available in the UK - I think). I could do with that with the way the roads are getting round here

Wheels and tyres seem to play a big part on our roads.
I found the standard 18" runflats on the 5 series M Sport to be really unforgiving, but the 19" wheels with proper tyres actually give a better ride.

I agree, just fitted 215 40 Z17 to my Mini Cooper S instead of the 205 45 Z17 runflats, its transformed the ride, why BMW insist on fitting runflats is beyond me.
