A few reasons.
One being they were built in limited numbers. 4501 made (mine was number 4496) so they're not everywhere you look.
The Ford `RS` badge has a huge amount of Kudos. TBH if they'd given it 4WD they'd be even more expensive. Just look at Escort Cosworths (15 years + now). Mint examples are going for £16 to £20k. Prestine one's are still £20k+.
That's why Ford have to give the new Focus RS 4WD. It has the looks (going by the released press pic), so all it need's is the hardware. 4WD 300bhp+. Limited numbers too.
Have my name down for one. Plan to stick it away in the Garage for weekend use only. 10-15 years time, I'll have hardly lost any money. Would only sell it for a newer, faster RS.

And a CTR (-ish)
And a UK Turbo.
But in my old age my taste in cars is somewhat diminishing...

The RS is in the highest tax band after next year, maybe thats why they are starting to be sold?
I was looking to buy one, but went for the ST instead, which is quicker now its running DS.

No idea, I try not to get into the RS vs ST debate it's the same as the Evo vs Impreza one, pointless but legend has it the ST is the quicker and easier car to drive.
FRS is 212bhp as std, ST is 225. I DS'd my ST on Saturday so it now has 271bhp and the difference is night and day from std - the best VFM I have ever had from anything!!
No idea about the RS though.

My RS was Bluefined, but I couldn't tell you the output.
For me, I prefer the RS over the ST (and I did think about having an ST) mainly due to the rarity factor and also the fact that the RS doesn't look just like any other Focus.
As good as the ST is it just doesn't stand out from the crowd enough, and is just a little to 'soft'.
But as you say Dream Weaver, the ST is easier to drive every day.
All IMHO and I'm not in any way saying the ST is crap.

I love the exterior look of the RS, always have done since they first came out and still think it's one of the toughest looking hatches/cars available, but its the rarity that puts me off.
I would imagine a bumper scrape, or anything that damages the RS bits, wheels, seats etc is gonna cost shed loads to put right so I would be worried about it all the time.
Having said that, I was never a fan of the RS interior, looked too much like our old 1.8 Zetec inside and is just slightly outdated for my liking. I'm loving the Recaro's in the ST.
As for standing out from the crowd, that's something I'm trying to get away from, subtle all the way for me now time is pushing on

Mine was Blufin'd. 237BHP & 263 lb/ft torque.
Remenber though, the RS is a lighter car. 1278kg so bhp/tonne is always better than the ST.
On bumpy roads I have no doubt the ST is the better overtaker (RS can bite) but on smooth roads, or just for cornering speed/grip, an ST could not touch an RS.

My 205 has 200bhp and weighs 950kg so its power to weight is enormous. When I first bought the ST i thought it felt big and slow compared to the 205 and the 205 would easily have beaten it in a line, but the DS has transformed the ST into the car it should have been from Ford.
The 205 would have no chance against it now, and would in fact be slaughtered by it quite comfortably - the acceleration it has now almost made me spew this morning.
Traction in the ST seems very good as well, 330 ft/lbs is some torque figure from the DS, but it rarely struggles for grip in the dry!

Think the main reason is like has been said, limited build numbers. Being a current owner of one I've seen the prices drop a good bit over the last year, be it down to the tax issue, I'm not sure but being in the lowest group insurance should off set that against any of the other hot hatches (Group 16).
Bluefin should see the FRS at around 240bhp, although there are quite a lot now running in the region of 280-330bhp!
As has been said also, most of the owners really do care for their motors so most will be in top condition regardless of age or mileage. Engines seem to be really strong with a few running 350-380bhp on standard internals!
Mine runs around 300bhp, I do track days, trips to Nurburgring, daily runner, have 46k on clock, still on same turbo and clutch with no defects at all in my past 3yrs of ownership, so reckon Ford got something right with this RS edition!
Get one, you won't be disappointed!

That's why Ford have to give the new Focus RS 4WD. It has the looks (going by the released press pic), so all it need's is the hardware. 4WD 300bhp+. Limited numbers too.

How do I do that??
Quite fancy a new Focus RS, specially if its going to have a decent lump of power as standard, not massively fussed if its FWD/4WD, although 4WD would put some strain on the new Evo and Impreza as they're a bit challenging and have got some diehard Mitsi/Scoob people looking around at alternatives.
Just wondering if its as easy as finding a dealer that knows what they're doing, as my local Ford Dealer is absolutely clueless when it comes to the more limited/sport models.
Cheers,
Grant
