fair exchange?
Hi All
Opinions please....
My mum has been offered the following swap at a garage
Her Merc 200 elegance Kompressor (67K on a 51 plate) for Citroen Picasso 2.0, diesel, 55 plate, 1 owner, full service, tax and mot plus 300 pound.
Does that seem a fair swap??
Opinions please....

wouldn't think so mate at a private dealer the merc would command between 7.5k and 8k, the citroen in the same dealer would be 5.5k to 6250k so would expect some more money as well as the picasso to make deal worthwhile

but you didn't state. As has been said though, not a great deal.

Yes, it might be worthwhile, for the dealer, Picasso are good but pretty reasonable to buy when new, i.e. 10k gets you one, perhaps 12 for a diesel but they are very aggressively discounted. Even though the Merc is older and has a few miles I would advise selling it privately and going with cash to the dealer to buy a Picasso, of which there are thousands for sale.
I got an extra £700 for selling our old car privately, I suspect in this case it will be more, undervalued Merc, overpriced Citroen and a lady doing the deal, dealers are still terrible with women, they always try to talk to the bloke even though its not the 1940's anymore.
I would research prices of each car properly, use the Auto Trader, then decide whether its a good deal.

i would have thought that as the dealer is offering money they must be thinking that they can make money. any part exchange you make with a dealer will be in their favour not yours.
id look at the market value of both cars and then see what you think.
