The original M1 was a masterpiece and a beautiful piece of design - an instant classic.
The new one - dare i say even more beautiful - Makes the R8 look like lardy jelly mould of a car.
Well done BMW

Anyone can come up with a prototype that looks cool - at least Audi have managed to 'mass' produce one that does. I doubt BMW will end up making this or if they do, it wont look much like it.

M1, Z1, etc so there is a good chance this will end up a reality.
They have a tradition of producing well designed cars right back to the 30's, few independent manufacturers can still say that. BMW do not need to worry about offending anyone or impinging on sales of other products of companies they own (well, not anymore).
I like the R8 do not get me wrong, Audi have a good looking, well designed range (except that ugly 4x4 tank). This new M1 is probably the best looking car/design i have seen for a long while.

You guys are kidding, right? It's horrible, something that might just about do to promote a video game. The R8, on the other hand, is gorgeous - and I'd still probably take the Nissan GT-R over either.

LOL at the above comments,
There is a certain irony - Subaru board, Scooby enthusiasts going on about other cars looking like designed for or from a video game...
I would rather have a Skyline - the ultimate video game-a-like car!
Heh, not having a go, just point out.
Me, had a scoob, would love a skyline or the BM or the R8 TBH!
Beauty is in the eye of the beer-holder as they say

Finally had the pleasure in driving my old man's R8 this very afternoon.
Feels quite a bit faster than his previous RS4. Flat cornering, huge grip, and the sound of that V8 sat behind your ears. Get it into the higher revs and the thing pulls like a train.
Such a nice car to sit it too. Audi are the best when it comes to interiors, and having that feel good factor. I've always said if I win the lottery, the first car I'd buy would be a 911 Turbo, but after todays little drive the new V10 engined R8 could just get the nod instead.
Everywhere we went you could see people pointing it out to friends. It deffo is a real head turner.
Got back into my car to go home. It suddenly felt very slow.
