First Car Questions
Yet again i am asking another first time car question. I'm a few lessons off putting in for my test and i am now seriously thinking of buying a car anytime soon!
Now the one thing i dont want is a fiesta/saxo/corsa esq car. I'm 22 and sales agent and want something with a touch of class but doesn't look like i'm showing off and like to be frugile with my money.
i've got a budget of £3k (as i don't want to spend anymore because it'll probably get wrecked) tops so go on hit me with what you think would be a good solid man-ly car!

your best with a vw golf or something like that ive found one here for you
Autotrader - VOLKSWAGEN GOLF 1.6 S 5dr Hatchback
dont know if your into that sort of thing but VW are good quality cars its not the top of your budget which then leaves you some for your insurance as it wont be cheap. My first car was a fiat Seicento 900cc for the insurance on that TPTF was £997 for my third car a 2.0 tdi vw eos brand new on a 08 plate its £999.
I recommed doing your pass plus too that will knock some money off for you

The PP might, but might not save you any cash. Consider the £150 it costs and ask several insurers for quotes, including some whom recognize the scheme. Many of my learners find cheaper insurance which doesn't require it so don't bother. Is your budget £3k + insurance, or do you have another £1k+ to cover that ?

I actually really like the idea of an Alfa but i'm not sure my wallet would! I think a golf might be the one to go for but again it just goes against me to want something so bland

Audi A4 - 1.6-2.0, non turbos are reliable, refined, cheap to run and great to modify (RS4 alloys, spoiler kits, etc)
Golf MK4 - either petrol or diesel, plenty of GTI parts on ebay or make it a euro spec
Early BMW 3 series - M3 rep parts galore or euro look
Mondeo - get a later model cheap as there are so many about
Vectra - same as mondeo

Golfs are dull as ditchwater as are A4's. BMW are slightly more interesting to drive but a 22 year old sales rep in a BMW is a bit stereotypical and makes you look like you have no imagination.
What about a Peugeot 406 Coupe? Classy looks, not too flash and not dull. Or an Alfa GTV? Not sure what your insurance would be like, though. A Mazda MX-5 wouldn't be a bad choice, although some people see them as girls cars (they're not).
