Mini Convertible - Any one here own one
The wife would love a Mini Convertible, and I would like some feedback on them. It would be a second car so not worried about space and the like..
Anyone owned / run one ??

I have an S works cab. Fantastic weekend car. No faults, great engine although its a bit juicy when pressing. Mini2 is the place to go for more info but if you want a small 2+2 they cannot be beaten. If you are going to buy a new one the facelift will be out Sep/Oct that will have the turbo engine rather than the Supercharged. Even the non S will provide far better CO2's and fuel econ over the old model but "some say" the original magic is replaced with a more grown up package.
Only real problem I have is getting the power down in anything less than dry roads.
Enjoy.

They have stopped making the convertible now. They are selling off the stock. The Convertible still has the old Chrysler engines and not the new BMW engines as per the facelifted hard top.
They will start building the new convertible with the new engines in 2009.
With the hood down they are all freezing - you need heated seats if you want to use it as much as possible and you need the optional wind deflector - otherwise you cannot feel the heater AT ALL.
The Mini One is underpowered - The Cooper is very good the Cooper S is mental. The One is the same engine as the Cooper and can be chipped to similar power. One is Insurance group 6 Cooper is 9.
The sidewalk is the limited edition special to mark the end of the current series.

My fiancee has a mini cooper and she test drove a convertible 05 plate the other day. I found the ride pretty appalling. Scuttle shake was amazing and my spine had enough after 10 minutes. Her hard top is a hard enough ride. Do love em though. So fun to drive!!

Great fun little cars. Missus works for Mini and have had great times in all the models. Hardtop Cooper S 56 plate and on is the most fun I have to say.
Not expecting you will, but rear passengers in the converts can get a little claustraphobic.
Also visibility is poor in some aspects.

We had one for a month as a courtesy car while BMW fiited a new engine into our 320 and I have to admit I loved it.
It was an 06 plate Cooper Cab and brand new at the time and I just drove everywhere in it, roof down whenever the sun was out (luckily it was summer).
Handling was excellent, engine was OK if a little slow but the interior was great.
