Upto 3K vr6 or gt4 or c70t5
Hi Guys,
I'm looking at either a 97/98 vr6 golf, but would love a celica gt4 of a similar year but uk car.
My budget is around 3K anyone got any good suggestions of a car that is reliable for 10K miles a year but still fun.
Thanks
Jat

The bloke who brought my Astra Coupe Turbo some years back had just sold his GT4. Said it was a lovely car but ate his money faster than he could earn it!!! At 10k miles per year I would look towards golf or corrado VR6. If I remember rightly the engine is old technology but bullet proof.

Ok, here's a couple of ideas. Before you turn your nose up at them you need to remember that they are great drivers cars that should be far more reliable than your suggestions. Whether you like them depends on whether you are more concerned with bragging about your car to your mates or enjoying the best driver's car for your money.
Ford Puma
Nissan Almera GTI
And just one further thought. I'm not sure what you're driving now, but a VR6 and GT4 will probably return about 25mpg. 10,000 miles per year at 25mpg is 400 gallons. At £5/gallon the petrol on either of these cars is going to cost you 2 grand a year. Add on insurance, road tax, MOT, service and it will probably cost you more to run each year than it cost to buy. Boring I know, but it makes the case for the Puma in particular very convincing. Food for thought. HTH

Astra coupe turbo could be had for fairly cheap be tunable and more reliable than the GT4. The other too puma, almera arnt bad either and would be even cheaper to run and more reliable again.

Something else to think about - I owned a Pug 306 Rallye for a couple of years and it was a fantastic car. I still wish I owned it to be honest but fell in love with an Alfa and sold it .
They are quite rare cars, mine was black which was even rarer . I've seen a couple on Pistonheads, but not many.
The Rallye is a Pug 306 GTI-6 which has been stripped of a few luxuries so it makes it lighter, faster and more exclusive. I'd have another without doubt.
Wolfie.

Hi I had a 306 gti6 previously and was nice. I guess the vr6 and gt4 is older too.
I'm gonna go for a clio 172 phase 1. Its in the price range and quite new 2001/2002 in the 3-4K range.

Another vote for a GTi6 - Wifey's got one. It's fantastic.
The Rallye was a lighter version, but bear in mind that the earlier phases were lighter anyway.......
My mint Phase 1 is the best version (albeit not as "modern-looking"
