From a mate:
"I have a 1986(WR)UR quattro and it has a fault which i think is a ignition timing retarding problem . What happens is when you reach around 4500rpm the engine seems to hesitate ,but it still pulls cleanly throughout the rev range.I know it should pull harder than it does.
Can anyone tell me what it is as i have to go to Knockhill and beat Scooby-doo Imprezas (AGAIN!)Ha Ha Hee ."
His words, not mine

hi miles's m8
i used to own a 1985 (WR) UR quattro with a similar problem, it used to spluter and back fire circa 4500 rpm but it would push though this higher up the rev range. with mine it turned out to be the ecu that was just down to the right of the driver in the dash. i just had to hit the ecu and that used to clear the problem altogether.
