Accord type R or Civic type R
Both seem to get good reviews and there doesn't seem to be much difference in performance.
With about 6K to spend which would make the better buy?
The Accord is rare, but seems slightly less money than the Civic. Is there a good reason for this.
At the moment I would go for the Accord as it has four doors (familly car) but could maybe live with 3 if the Civic was a much better car.
Anyone owned both?
I am currently driving an 02 Accord 1.8 "sport" which is great apart from it being as slow as ****. I would like to have one more performance car before you need to save up for a tank full of fuel

The reason the Accord is cheaper is that they are older, simple.
Personally, I'd go for the Accord as a little more practical and better value. I don't think a £6k CTR will be the best example.

I have driven both. The Civic has chav appeal, the Accord class appeal and a lot rarer. The Accords engine is on par with the Civic even though it's heavier. The front seats are gorgeous and is more of a car for the money.
Honda : W Reg Accord Type R
The only thing is they will be around 7 years old and all hitting the 100k mark. But, IMHO definitely a future classic.

Driven both at some length, owned the Civic. To me the Civic was more modern, felt a lot more nimble at the limit and stopped better. I also thought the gearbox on the Civic was a MAJOR plus point.
I also had no need for 4 doors.
But as said there are not many civics around for 6k, there are some but they are 2001 / 2 models with high miles. A 2001 ATR might be a bit cheaper but I would still go for the CTR.

Thanks guys
Mixed views, but I guess it is what you want them for.
Persoanally, I would rather spend 1K a year on repairs (worse case) than 2-3K a year in depreciation on a newer car.
Like Raj says, possibly a future classic. I think there are too many Civics about for them to become one, but who knows
Must start saving after Xmas
Anyone else?

ive just bought an accord type r and previously had new civic type r (breadvan model)this is what i think.
civic.nice car but now a chav mobile.wheelspins everywhere getting nowhere fast from junctions.common as muck but still fast.even wife was getting pissed off wheelspinning and chavs wanting to race her.
accord.lovely recaro seats, momo steering wheel, and with a limited slip diff as standard not much wheelspin.mine has the 5th gear syncro problem but only when you cane it otherwise gearchange ok but i can live with this .mark 2 version dosent suffer from this from 2001 onwards.mines is a 2000 model.looks like a mans car (wifes comment)you could also debadge and remove spoiler then becomes a stealth mobile.personally i like the spoiler and twin tailpipes.not much info or tuning available.boot is large but rear seats dont fold.reason to make car more rigid.a proper type r in which each engine is hand finished and ports polished by one of only 2 specialist technicians at the honda factory.can be sourced for £4000 upwards.

Ever considered an Integra type R?
A friend of a friend had one and it was a fantastic car, perfect for day to day then perfect for track or fast road use
£6k would buy you an excellent DC2 model
just a thought.....

Not sure I would fit the mother-in-law in the Integra, certainly wouldn't get her out again
I think I am heading towards a late Accord ATM. The wife wants the Civic but she can't even drive
Thanks folks.
