04 Focus TDCI help!
I realise it would probably be better on a ford forum but im a member here so ill try here first!
My other half had an 04 TDCI focus which she drives 60 miles a day in 50% motorway other 50% dual carriageway and a bit of rush hour crawling.
She is getting about 40- 42mpg which to me seems totally awful.
I got 36mpg out of my 330d! and 46 out of bora.
anyone else got one of these cars if so can you tell me how much your getting? The car also takes about 20mins to fully heat up.
thanks
Mark

It sounds about right to me. We have a 2.0 TDCI CMax and with similar driving, my other half gets around 47mpg. I think they're quite throttle sensitive, since I can drive at similar speeds as my other half on the same roads and return 50mpg. I also tend to change up sooner.

thanks guys. jonc, thats the sort of fuel consumption i was expecting but she isnt getting it. She says she sits about 75 on the motorway(in 5th!) so it really should be better.
I called ford and they were as helpful as you would expect. well sir it can take up to an hour for a cars temperature guage to react to the engine! and fuel consumption wont be good if your in rush hour traffic.
very helpful.

A new air filter often helps diesels with MPG That said, a mate of mine has a 2000 Focus diesel and I gather the economy isn't great on that either

It is the crawling that does it, dont go by whats on the computer, go off how much you put back in to the car. My Omega TD was pushing 50mpg, hit stationary/slow traffic, dropped to 42mpg, that was about 15 mins worth.

A work colleague has a tdci focus on a 07 plate. He goes 10 miles to work all national speed limit with 5- 6 roundabouts 6 days a week and doesn't rate his. He gets between 36 and 38 mpg.

That figure seems pretty good actually. You're always get people on here saying mine averages 50+ etc but they're probably giving you a figue that was obtained on a very light throttle and with a following wind!
My brother travels approx 80 miles a day and has used a variety of cars- a new Audi A3 TDI 140, Citreon zx diesel, Ford escortdiesel tdi and a ne Renault clio 1.4 and driving a steady 75-80mph on motorway and just taking it steady elsewhere, they all average about the same -40MPG ISH.
what with the crazy prices of fuel, it still costs stupid money travelling to and from work, even in diesels!

I've got a 2005 Focus TDCI 115 (Old Shape) and the last time I worked it out it was low 40s MPG. I use it mainly on motorways over a long run. It is very rare that I see more than 430 miles before the fuel light comes on from a full tank. Like you I expected the economy to be better. Other than that, though its a top car. Economy is good compared to my Scoob
Cheers,
Ian.

That sounds about right to be honest I have lots count of the amount of focus diesels I have had on hire and have never found one that returned much above 40. I remember when i first got in one thinking "oooh power, at last ford have a made a diesel engine to rival vag's" then I came to refuel.....
