Default Integra DC2 - Rusty?

OK, not exactly getting bored with my MK2 MX5 - just getting my regular (ish) 2 or 3 year itch for a newer / different car.

Came across a lovely 'Teg DC2 and went to see today. Totally original, drove like a dream (believe the hype!) and I'm tempted. Only problem (aside from spending money!) is a few spots of rust on the bonnet and rear wing - around the wheel arch.

The spots on the bonnet have not broken through the paint, but are a couple of blisters about the size of a 5p peice (maybe a tad smaller). The one on the rear wing is slightly longer but has just started coming through. Is this easy to sort out? How much (approx) would it cost and is it common on a 7 year old car?

Any advice welcome as it's a great car - I just don't want to buy a money pit!!

What's the mileage?

Wouldn't have thought a 7 year old car should have rust unless it's been smashed and poorly repaired.

Cars aren't that rare, keep searching and get a better example.

62000 miles - seems genuine, full history. Doesn't look like any repairs have taken place (no overspray in engine bay for example)

hi, i used to work at a honda dealer for 7 years, these are a wickered car, and if they have fsh they will last for ever! area's i used to see rust, was under the bonnet area and the back arch's used to start going, only normally when somebody had bumped or damaged the rear bumper area causing damage to the corner bumper mountings which then rusted.

hope this helps

I had a T reg DC2 for 3 years (sold over a year ago now) best car I ever owned, bar non. Brilliant brilliant bit of kit, and with it being a hatch its a lot more practical then you would expect. Rear arches on mine were starting to go ie bubbles where the rear bumper meets the arch, and just in front of the arch on the sill. Nothing to worry about they all do it, its not very fast progressing, I had mine sorted as well as the front bumper resprayed to clear the stone chips. Not sure of the cost I am afraid the paperwork went with the car, think it was 300-400 for both rear quarters doing by the main dealer. Had clocked over 100k when I let go of it, still see it around as someone local pounced on it the moment I advertised. The only things that went wrong in 3 years and over 50thou were the offside rear wheel bearing, and the clutch plate became delaminated from the clutch.... odd fault really, the guys at the dealer (who I know personally) said they had never seen anything like it.

The other thing to watch is the wheels, the originals tend to get quite tatty, refirb or replace if your not worried about keeping the originals. Although i have to say the original rims are so light its amazing.

I would buy another tomorrow!

T reg (so 99) had for 3 years, sold over a year ago. You do the maths again slowly and explain how you came to the conclusion it was 3 years old....

That makes it 4 years old when I got it, and the rust might have waited till year 7 (it did) before breaking out... since I never said when during the 3 years it happened.

Still shocking that even 7 year old cars show rust, didn't expect that at all

My 17 year old 205 doesn't have any rust anywhere on the bodywork.

It doesn't help with them being white. Moisture takes a lot longer to dry off a white car, hence its more likely to rust. I should know, I have to chamoix (sp) our DC5 and its a pain.

Did they not galvanize the 205's though?

Firstly great choice of car - Can't praise them enough !! I've had 2 now and I'm now debating weather or not to get a 3rd..

Back to your question, Very common problem on ITR's (Rust)

The rust on bonnets is mainly due to excessive stone chipping which is very very common on UK tegs due to the low sloped front end. The arch rust as due to the fact that Honda fitted rubber strips on the inner arch lip where all the moisture and crap of our winter roads collects over time.

I found with Integras when i was looking to get one, that they are either pampered or driven properly & used daily in all seasons.

IMO the condition IE rust reflects how it's been used.

The bonnet on a DC2 ITR is ally, it won't rust. The underneath bracing can rust, as can the various panels under the bonnet, nothing that can't be sorted. Rear arch rust can be sorted but I'd check for accident damage thoroughly.

Superb cars though, don't let a bad one put you off

I looked at buying one last year and saw quite a few and to be honest many had tiny rust spots here and there..... IMO quite normal and nothing to worry about as long as it hasnt been whacked or anything.....
