2.0 or 1.8 zetec mondeo (93-00)
Hi all
First off i wanna apologise for asking so many questions on this forum, you are just too damn helpfull for your own good. lol
As you may know by now i'm changing cars to save some cash on insurance, petrol etc and i've spotted a sparkley W reg 1.8 Mondeo Zetec for sale however i was looking for a 2.0, trouble is this car looks so good i'm very tempted, obviously mpg will be better and so will insurance and it also maybe in the lower tax bracket.
Can anyone who has experience of these engines tell me if there is much performance difference between the 1.8 and 2.0? Should i keep looking for the 2.0 model.
Regards
Mark

Literally just bought a nice clean 2.0 Mundano on a R plate 1998.
never drove the 1.8 but the 2.0 is no ball of fire either, so imagine not a lot in it.
mpg i got 130miles out of 20 quid - a mixture of bobbing about and a couple of 8 mile motorway runs

From my recollection, the 1.8 had lower gear ratios and I'm sure it had a fair bit lighter flywheel. This tended to make it feel just as lively at low speed acceleration, but the flipside was the lower gearing blunted the economy advantage. Therefore, the difference isn't huge, so if you've found a very good 1.8 I'd go for it.
