Default m3 csl

I have read a lot about these and they sound marvellous. I was wondering about reliability. You see a lot with less than 20k miles stating new clutch/flywheel. Is this an expensive fix? or just a warranty thing. Id love to buy one but you lot seem to reckon that they may go bang and I was hoping to keep it for a good few years? So whats the judgement?

Mine needed a new clutch at 8k.

Most will be out of warranty by now, and the extended warranty is expensive and has an excess.

However, for the money it's a great buy, they are very capable. On the road they are abit 'twitchy' even on the road tyres. The car tends to pull you into any cambers on the road, so you always need to be concentrating.

They sound amazing, apparently there is going to be an E92 CSL coming along, which should be good

so how much would a new clutch cost? And apart from that it must be fairly bulletproof?

No idea to be honest as mine was done under warrenty.

I think you would need to factor in the cost of the used BMW warrenty even though it's a complete rip off. But lets face it if you did manage to loose an engine thats going to be one hell of a bill.

I never had any other problems with mine apart from the slipping clutch...

... until I put it into a ditch that is

I could never really get on with mine, but I don't think thats because of the car, move because I never really mastered it. I actually find the GT3 easier to drive.

Default smg 2 box

is to blame, these had an issue with premature clutch wear and a recall and software update along with a new clutch if needed seems to of sorted it now. Many have seen the track though and when you have experienced s7 on full chat you have to say "not surpising really"!!

(think its actually smg 3?)

And there were enough of them over at the 'Ring last weekend. In fact they seemed to be about the most common car around, whereas over here you see plain M3's a lot more.

You have to remember that a good percentage of CSL's do alot of track work. It's what they are designed for and good at. That will put stress on clutches / brakes etc. It doesnt mean the car is about to blow up just that it's had a hard life
