Default MK1 Golf re released

Fair play to VW for doing this.
Wish Ford would do the same with the S1 Escort RS Turbo. I'd be first on the list for one.

Now if VW/Audi could do this for the Corrado and
UrQ and BMW for the M3 that would be something.

Why would they need to? It was already pretty much perfect.

Agreed. That's more than enough power through the front wheels. It'll obviously be heavier than the original but by how much? If they keep it simple and price it competitively I think it would go down well over here.
The "new" Beetle is different altogether just a Golf with no room in the back and dubious styling. It has no relationship with the original in either style or concept.

This looks to be the real thing. Put some period wheels and rear lights on it and you would really have a modern classic.

Yup, the Citroen ZX is still sold somewhere too, and the Renault 19 was still available recently somewhere like Argentina And aren't old beetles still made in Mexico or somewhere?

Because they are built in South Africa using a second hand production plant shipped there from the US. The three doors were all built in Germany, and as far as I know those plants were all scrapped or rejigged following the introduction of the Mk2

Am I missing something? Old models are sold all over the place. There used to be a Mk1 where I live that was on a G or H that was from SA.

The dash was revamped a while back so its really only the few styling additions that makes it anything new.

Yep, South America..

I don't like that golf. It all just looks wrong. I used to have one, great little car with lots of character, all the new style bit and bobs on that don't sit right wi me. I fact I'm thinking of getting another for the missus!

I would imagine they would have to remanufacture the panel presses for a start, and they ain't cheap

Besides, can you imagine the embarrassment at board level if the remanufactured real thing started outselling the fugly overweight current model
