Pajero Head Gasket Repair
Friend of mine has an H Reg Pajero that's decided to blow it's head gasket.
I don't suppose there is anyone on here, in the kent area, who can, or who knows someone, who could repair it for a reasonable price (*cough* ideally for cash if you know what I mean *cough*) and not fleece my friend? Feel free to PM/email me.

Markus, has it had the EGR valve blanked off?
Common mod that is suspected to lead to heads running hot and cracking.

Thanks for the replies
No idea if the EGR valve has been blanked off, but will check. One does hop the heads have not cracked, but that could explain perhaps why my friend was quoted around £1,000 to fix it as possibly that included heads but the person who quoted it didn't say heads, just the gasket.

Ive got my EGR valve blanked off on my current 2.8 and had it done on my old 2.5 without any problems. Its either done via a screw in a rubber pipe near the turbo or a blanking plate put inbetween the valve and the manifold.
Ive have heard the idea that the blanked EGR can cause HG failure but on a online web vote, on the pajero site, wasnt proven.
Your friend will need the head skimmed, so whilst the engine shop does that, get them to pressure test the head for cracks. Ebay has loads of heads for sale.
However, H plate ? mmmmm whats the car really worth ?? You may find its easiler to buy a new 2.5, and sell that one for parts. H plate 2.5 with 90K miles are now £1300 !!!
So, it may be time to decide what to do.

Selling it for parts is being thought about. They are a little miffed as they purchased it about two months ago from a dealer anf now the head gasket has gone.
They didn't get a warranty from the garage and therefore I doubt the garage can be held responsible, though if anyone knows differently I'd be interested to hear about it (friend mentioned trading standards and sale of goods act of 1979 and maybe they could take them to the small claims court)

By law now a car sold by a dealer must come with a 3 month warranty i believe, unless it was sold to them on a trade basis and this is highlighted on their invoice,so if they have only had it 2 months, they almost certainly have a case (for at least some of the repair costs). If they are a reputable dealer,i am sure they will honour this fact.
I am sure someone else will be along in a bit to clarify the situation properly though .
