205 gti or 106 gti ???
Cant decide on which would be the best buy for daily commute and a bit of weekend fun.
Nostalgic side of me says 205 1.9 (i had a 205 gti 10 years ago and would love another).
Sensible side of me says 106gti. Handling not far off a 205, newer, safer and less prone to break downs.
Which one would you choose??

Having never driven a 205, but owned a 106 GTI for 3 years, I'd say go for the 106.
Handling will be better too. From what I've read the 205 can be snappy on the limit. A 106 will happily slide about while being in full control when pushed. Other than that it corners like it's on rails.
I wouldn't mind a second car myself. A 106 GTI would fit the bill perfectly.

1.9 205 everytime the most rewarding car handling wise i have ever driven and i have owned some descent cars Mk 1 Golf Gti, Type R scooby,E30 M3 , E36 M3 and so on. Yes the 205 has a reputation for lift off oversteer but if you owned one 10 years ago i assume you're not 18 anymore and go plaughing into bends you don't know way to hot and lift off mid corner. I have also been doing a bit of reading up the 205 recently as i'm thinking of buying one again for old times sake, and apparently due to the quality of modern road tyres ( something descent Yoko Toyo Dunlop etc) the lift oversteer is not a problem anymore.
Do youself a favour and get one bought !! and let me know how you get on.
P.s I also have a soft spot for the Mk 1 Golf Gti nice runout model 1800cc in silver with the pirelli alloys. Pure eighties classic the motoring equivalent of Kim Wyld !!

I have owned all sorts of fast cars over the years and one of my current weekend toys is a 1.9 205 GTI. Its not that fast in a straight line but it turns in like no other FWD car I have driven and is very cheap to run and maintain.
However, if its to be used every day I might look at the 106, its a little more usable and is going to be a bit more reliable.
I would not use mine every day as its got a full cage, harnesses etc so not sure how easy a standard car would be to use every day.

Lovely looking car.... Im after a standard 1.9 8valve one that that price though.
£1700 and i'll take it off your hands
one thing i noticed on the pictures is that the boot lid looks to have a few very small creases/dents. (is there one above the rear drivers side taillight and one above the peugeot badge on the left hand side?)

personally mate i would go for the 205 gti i have one at the moment as well as the impreza and i absolutly love it, it seems more basic than the 106 but they handle absolutly brilliant and parts seem really easy to get hold of but like most cars they do have there problems and as they get older if you dont keep ontop of them they can get into a right state before you know it & will cost you a fortune to repair.
