Default AMG merc C36 v C43

Hi all, shocked to see the price of the C36 drop below 5k..... im amazed, basically is it worth going for the C43 over the C36?

Also a cousin used to own a E36 M3 (3.0) which of the AMG listed above is similar in performance to it?

Thanks

Moz

Been on pistonheads? I was suprised too. There's an 80k miler on there which looks like a bargain.

go to FastSaloons.com - The Premier Web Site for Fast Saloons and Sedans and press 'compare & race' then select the c36 and c43 to compare. You can then see their technical info together.

Apparently there is a big problem with the gearbox on the C36 as it is an AMG item not a Merc item and prone to failure and very expensive. Also the wiring can be problematic on the C36.

Also, its just about to hit 80,000 miles, probably on my way home tonight, but the thing feels very very solid with hardly a rattle or squeak. Remember these were £ 50k + cars when new and whilst purchase price may be affordable, some parts costs are expensive. Buy a cherished car and you should be all right, these were before Mercedes build quality went down the toilet.

they had a feature on all the old skool amg's in a mag i read a little while ago...the c36 was made to compete with the m3 but lost out...then the c43 came along and i think it did well against a m3 e36 (not evo)

but then again only 308bhp from a heavy 4.3 v8...youd think they were american

yes, but its effortless performance, and hardly stressed. Engines a peach. Soundtracks good as well, with windows open. Shame no tunnels near me to try it out in
