This Just IN Focus RS will be...
Junk. And to think we'll have to wait 2 more years for them to develop a 280hp version of the ST- I think its ironic that Ford also today announced they will
be bringing back the 'Taurus' to America. Looks like Ford will run themselves
dry by 09.
From AutoCar: "It is perhaps a surprise that the new RS retains front-wheel drive when Ford has access to various Volvo and Land Rover 4x4 systems that might have been adapted. But retaining two-wheel drive saves money: Ford plans to have the RS on the market at the impressively low price of £21,000 to £23,000, only about £3500 ahead of the ST entry price. The project is believed to need around 18 months to complete, so production cars should be ready by June 2009."

If it's in Autocar it must be true. Not
If Ford bring out an RS, it will have 4WD. Why develop a Chassis to incorporate 4WD and not use it. There is a market for Ford to have an RS at £25k+. But at that price it would have to be 300BHP+ and 4WD. Afterall Subaru and Mitsubishi don't struggle selling at and above that price.
Plus, they can't have Volvo and Masda with higher output engines and with 4WD. Volvo are bringing out a 4WD S40 T5.
Autocar/Autoexpress have been printing rubbish about the RS for years. According to the over the years, it would have been on sale years ago, complete with a Cosworth engine.
When news is printed in Evo, I'll believe it then.

well said Stilover..although they already do the v50/s40 t5 awd I nearly bought one before I decided to go for my Focus ST-2. Could't justify spending circa £25k for a posh Focus ST estate.

"Ford’s performance cars boss, Jost Capito, won’t confirm the car’s existence, on the grounds that it’s not yet in the company’s official plan, though he refuses to condemn the concept. “We are always pushing for cars like this,” he said, “but it is difficult because we have limited funds to spend on sporty cars. However, we would obviously like to build cars like this one.”
Says it all. No money for development. Simple as that. Its a sorry
end for a company that once had enormous potential. JL

Correct, no money for development
Unless Ford turn themselves around they will be bankruprt by 2010-2012. In December they mortgaged every factory, warehouse, and facility they own (other than specific ones they want to sell as part of other businesses) and liquidated all their available assests as well as securing massive loans (and with their credit rating being junk now those loans aren't cheap) to pay for their turnaround plan. If it doesn't work, they go under.

I end my thought on this by saying that
this attitude of cost cutting and limited budgets
is precisely what have done them in. How can you compete
with the best in the market with no budget? Its almost
like the ceo wants to loose.

Sad end to a lecacy...
I can't really see it being made much as i want it to because of the standards and costs involved in carrying the RS name. Ford lost ****LOADS with the last Focus RS (£4.2k per car new IIRC) so are obviously still wary and as said are in a pile of **** financially.
If it does happen it should compete with the bigboy japs, 4x4, 300hp, with a tight and relatively short chassis. Cross our fingers eh?
