Talking MX-5 Owners Forum and FAQ

Gents (and ladies seeing how we are talking MX-5's ),

Which is the best forum for these cars?

Does anyone know if there is an equivalent of the SIDC FAQ for the MX-5? They appear to have as complex a model type history as the Impreza (with less testosterone though )!

Have you checked:

UK Hairdressers . com CHAT ROOM

(Sorry, couldn't resist!)

No doubt pslewis could point you in the right direction, although if he's on it I'd steer clear...

They are, they're a fantasic ride. I'm on my 4th now (will post up a pic later if I remember - nicely modded!). Ive had Scoobs, Boxsters, FTo's etc. and pound for pound the lil Roadster always gives best VFM and best entertainment value.

Also, a good turbo'ed (HKS) model will see you 260BHP, good fun with just RWD!

Had a HKS turbo Mk2 myself, lowered with kit and wheels all tastefully done. And looked very nice and transformed the Hairdresser looks. Also one of the most if not fun drives I have ever had (and have had a few) with 220bhp RWD, and a super light car and great chassis. I felt like I could chuck it around and still have total control of the car. A turbo's MX5 is a serious bit of kit.

There is a monster one for sale on the Mx5 owners club (DaveMt's) with a built engine pushing out well over 300 horses with potentially more in reserve. Looks the bizz as well. He does want 15K for it, but still a lot of bang for your buck.

Google doesn't give personal recommendations like the helpful members on here nor give predictable and woe-full hairdresser type jokes

Mine's a black S-Spec but it's riding on 17's with huge 'Hogtronix' graphics across the sides, rear bumper and bonnet so it's quite noticable (it's on Spanish plates now as well). It's currently got a maroon mohair top but that comes off at the weekend in place of a black one with glass rear window.

I'm up in the mountains as well so it's not such great fun on the bumpy tracks but being RWD it pulls away brilliantly on tarmac stretches of the mountains. I'll post a pic tomorrow...(been raining here all day today)

I pop up to Antequera from time to time, it's not far at all, in fact the car's been everywhere here - last year I took it to Gib 3 times, Portugal and all over Spain (having driven it down from the UK originally). You've got a holiday place at Antequera or locally haven't you FCD?

Here is what my wife was driving before we left the UK (Mk2):

It had all the gizmo's on it (I used to run a tuning company for MX5's)...

I passed an MX-5 at Christmas and thought it might be you but it was blue. You'd have noticed me, chewing the steering wheel as I was rincing the **** of my hire car. Its a shame I couldn't keep the Scoob as a holiday car down there but I needed as part of my PX.

Hello Russ
I take it your the chap I used to Know form Eunosverse
I had a few bits off you in my time and remember when you bought a black Sti
Hope you are keeping well
What are you upto?
I had several MX5s. The last one was Supercharged and had every suspension mod under the sun It looked standard apart from a nice set of alloys and lowering - A great little Q car - as MX5s are a bit underpowered as a rule.

agree.. the standard car looks much nicer.

Atequera is an amazing place !! I took a moutain bike to "El tocal" (Huge spelling alert !!) the national park with the big rocks !!

The food and nightlife in the small villages was great. I bet driving around that area would be "awsome dude"

It has some of the best driving roads in Europe, thankfully largely unpopulated. One day, I'll get to take my car down there rather than putting up with hire cars although you can still have some fun in a Fiat Panda.

Can't help feeling that putting a turbo or supercharger on an MX-5 is missing the point somewhat. A bit like fortifiying an excellent bottle of wine with some 100 proof grain alcohol.

Then again I've only driven the bog standard 1.8. It's a car I would have bought apart from the fact I didn't really fit in it. I think anyone over 6 foot is going to struggle with the roof up.

I see where you are coming from and stock MX5s are not about power but about the fact they are superb in the handling department with an excellent chassis. But couple that with the insanity of a supercharger in such a small bit of kit whan you are a few inches off the ground (it also had fully adjustable suspension). Lets say one of the biggest grins I have ever had - and I have driven alot of cars over the years. They are so well built - so overengineered that they dont need any form of other upgrade in terms of clutch and gearbox inorder to take the power.

If you want to know more Phil Dixon is a guy that really really knows these cars inside out with his eyes shut and works out of a tiny modest workshop tucked away to the west of London. (Then again the best guys often do).
Here is a link to his site.

Performance 5

Thinking about it why the hell did I sell that car it was superb. I allways get cars right and then end up selling them and then look back a year or two later and wish I still had it.

How come PSLewis hasn't been in here yet?!

There seem to be quite a few MX5 owners on scoobynet.

Heres mine http://www.mcclay.co.uk

I think its nice to keep an MX5 standard in principle, but I must admit I have been tempted by superchargers a few times. Although its getting hard to resist..

anyone else got a pic of their mx5??

I have an Impreza, but my wife is on her second MX-5, she loves it to bits. It really is a fantastic car, although performance wise they are a little under-powered.

The reason she is on her second is because i wrote her first one off!!! OOPS!!

In my opinion they look far better standard, My wife's one was bought with after market alloys on it and i didnt think it looked right, so I have purchased genuine 16 inch Mazda alloys to put on it instead.

I am just over six foot and it is a little tight, (the seat is right back) but I have never been uncomfotable driving it.

My wife is at me about having kids but I threaten to sell her MX-5 as it is not a family car like my Impreza That soon puts a stop to baby talk

I had a P reg Mk1 for a while, followed by a T reg Mk2 Sport (red special edition) - both fantastic cars. The latter didn't make it's first birthday due to a little 'slip up' on my part

Currently got an '06 RX8 (230) - its like an MX5 on speed with a couple of extra seats
