For you petrolheads like me..
Saturdays track day in the Atom... hope ya like it...
As you can tell it doesn't have 4wd like the Scoob did...

Yep it is, and i only used full revs a couple of times if you listen...didn't get the last flashing shift light on the wheel... Mostly i was revving it to 6k and just keeping a constant throttle down the straight up-to about 130
Like i said its not like drive the scoob

Interested to know what its like. Is it more than just hysterical acceleration? It looked a little twitchy / kart-like in the vid. How would it compare with, say, a Caterham R300?
Looking to get a track special this year and both the above are contenders, as well as a well specced Exige.

If you re-read my post, the point I'm making is not relating to out-and-out speed.
Several reviews on the atom have said its just too quick to be a really tactile, enjoyable, progressive trackday tool, which is where the R300 excels.
I'm not interested in just having the fastest, and from looking at the video it just looks too frantic which is exactly my worry. I was trying to get some constructive feedback from you, not just a defensive 'its a lot quicker'.
I think I've already answered my own questions though.
cheers

I think Dazza was trying to find certain limits with it, sliding the back out and generally having fun...plus I'd imagine on a dry smooth surface it would be much more usuable.
And no andy...if you watch the rev lights on the steering wheel he rarely uses full range

Its not like driving a Scoobadishi though, you put two differing talented drivers in a Well setup Scoob and the times would be different but not hugley, do the same in those kind of cars the there would be a much bigger gap... Read any Article about driving a mcLaren F1 and everyone says the same, no electronics huge amount of power and rwd and it really focus's the attention a subaru for example is pretty much idiot proof, very easy to drive at 95-100% and you'd have to be daft to really get it wrong... its a different thing alltogether when you have big power no weight and no help, and much much harder to drive fast...
Hope that give a bit more info, If your upt north you more than welcome to take a passenger ride and get some ideas about that kind of car...
The crate r300 is a great car though, not too mad and probably more usable and i suspect a good bit easier to drive...

I don't think you could go far wrong with the r300 if thats what your looking at, if your a decent driver then you'd be quicker than pretty much any normal road car other than something very exotic or huge power at a track day...
And you'd almost certainly have more fun...

I had an R300. 160bhp is about the best combination for fast road and track. But I wanted a bit more power for track so upgraded to an SLR which has 190bhp. Its a lot harder to keep within the speed limit on the road but on track the extra 30bhp makes quite a big difference. Been involved with Caterhams for about 6 years now and had 4 of them so if you want some advice let me know.

We were at that trackday as well, Blue Elise and Porsche Boxster (Which you scalp in the video), great well organised day.
I have to say the other Ariel Atom that was there did not leave me as quickly as I thought it would when it came past me, but he may have been having a breather for a while!!!!!
Great videos, and fair play to you for not spinning too often. I only had one spin (on the bend that you show as doing 85mph), on the next lap my passenger noted we were turning in at about 70-75mph, so it counted as my fastest spin ever......
Zip
This is what can happen on a trackday though.

I was looking at it when he rolled it, not suprised with that rubber on it...
it simply spring into the air and i could see 3ft of daylight beteen the roof and tarmac... very odd to look at, my brain seemed to proces it in super slo mo... quite funny really, he was lucky he arms didn't flail about wen the windows popped out though, could have a bit nasty... nonetheless he seemed to take it well.. Even though he did get all the "bit of t-cut mate it'll be fine" rubbing in the pits, I think everyone was glad he was ok, his young lad was in the pits so a little bit bad for him...

No need to be pedantic, I said I watched it without volume. I have just rewatched it and it appears pretty awesome.
