astraboy - that looks a right initial D replica
One of the reasons we didnt get an imported one was because they've all been tuned and messed about with therefore making them unreliable....
this one of ours still has the original factory fitted tape player.....!!

If you dont mind me asking, what kinda ££ did you pay for this, as most of them do go for £3-4k which really is silly money!

My mate goes on about them being quite good - is it the drifting appeal?

Probably more that they are a Jap version of the Mk2 RS2000 - hence loved by those in the know.

I've had two over the years, great little cars, and you learn so much from them too.

My first one, sadly crashed, but is in the process of being done up

My second one, sold on for a number of reasons but a good nick original example

I had an 84 'B' reg in 1988. Paid £3500 for it then. The dreaded rust eventually got the better of it 4 yrs later, but it remains the favourite out of every car I've had. If you can avoid crashing it while you learn how to drive it properly, you'll come out the other side with a bit of car handling skill

i owned an 84 ae86 back in 1990,super car and great fun but for the life of me i don't understand how they are still on the road?
mine was the cleanest around at the time and it had to have a bootlid and arches back then to keep it in good nick, after 3 years of ownership they were starting to go again!

Theyre rare because most of the RWD Corolla GTis went (meaning: were bought as used cars by Irish buyers as they made a superb tarmac car) to Ireland to be used as tarmac rally cars. This left the FWD cars (was this the only model ever to be produced in both front and rear wheel drive?) which were far less desirable to enthusiasts, most of which have oxidisied away now...

Are you sure Craig? The reason that I ask is that Iceland has a blanket speed limit which applies everywhere! This is why they dont have motorsport; a driver can be prosecuted for breaking the low speed limit whilst on-track.....

They actually do quite a bit of rallying. The guy I helped mechanic for has done the Rally Iceland International rally about 12 times (I was only there on the last time with him), and has a bit of a love affair with the place (as does anyone who gets to spend some quality time there - including me). And yes there was a series that used AE86's in both hatchback form as well as notchback form (the one that has a boot on it).
