Real world fast
If you averaged up all your journeys over a year, what would be the fastest car, once you have to take into account,
Days off the road, servicing, problems, recalls
number of Fuel stops
Cornering speed, does it skitter across the road at the merest hint of a bump, if so, it isnt fast in the real world.
Straight line speed, can it maintain it without driving you mad
Can you cane it without feeling like it will break ?
Overtaking, mainstay of fast road driving, safe overtake
All weather capability, good wipers, stability control, 4wd, ABS, good heater, quick clear windscreen it all counts.
Your nominations please.

Depressingy boring and almost ashamed to nominate it, however i do own one and it is depressingly good at most things listed above.
It corners reasonably well, can be used to attack b roads with a good degree certainty (weekly trips up and down the A697 atest to it's capabilities) that it will get round the corners with out depositing you in a hedge. It returns 40-45 mpg cruises on motorways. Has a pile of toys, depreciates like a stone.
My nomination is laughably the Mondeo ST tdci.

BMW330xd. 145mph max, 45mpg, good mid range grunt, 500 mile range, 4wd, comfy sports seats, low cabin noise. No quick clear but climate control that will have the screen de-misted in 30 seconds. The ultimate all rounder.

good call with the Mondeo - forgot about that one.
Should really change mine, as relatively, the Porsche isn't a cheap car to run, akin to the RS4

Although too new to judge reliability, but going on past performance of their other models, I'd say the new BMW 335d, 286bhp 427lb/ft, 0-60 6.2, 155mph, 37.7mpg, servicing not the cheapest but also not extortionate.

Don't laugh
0 to 60 in 8 and a bit, 120 mph with relative ease. Decent grunt, good overtaker.
Extra height opened up overtaking opertunities lower cars couldn't take.
Reasonable economy and half decent range.
In 20,000 miles nothing broke, fell off, went wrong. Drove it like I stole it most of the time.
Great traction, surprising amounts of cornering ability, took any amount of bumps the roads could throw at it. Very benign handling characteristics, easy to drift.
Kept going in winter weather when all aside from serious 4X4's were floundering. Fantastic stability through surface water too.
Faster than 99% of other road users 99% of the time.

put an extended range tank in it, could od that for about £300-£400, extra 70 litres odd would see a fair few miles extra

not sure what there range is standard tbh.
think you'll struggle to find a car that goes very well with big power.
having said that a vovlo v70 d5 will do 500 miles on a tank, 170 bhp and will easily sit at autobahn speeds aka 100mph +

80 litre tank, 30 mpg, utterly reliable, thoroughly over-engineered quattro drivetrain, firm but compliant ride, huge boot, cheap insurance, 150mph and 0-60 in 6.1 seconds ...
Best all round car I've ever had, especially considering it only cost £3500 ...

On a VERY long run a VAG 130 diesel would be hard to beat point to point ... I get a genuine 50mpg cruising at 90mph, which means 650+ miles between fill-ups (14 gallon tank). I need to stop and **** / refuel myself before the car does.

Never breaks down, does 45mpg, once you get used to the body roll, you don't have slow it down for corners and even muppets think twice about pulling out in front of it in traffic, everybody seems to instinctively realise that their car will come of worse in any coming together
