Default Any Ford Mechanics out there?

Mate is getting a new clutch in his MY03 Mondeo TDCi 115. He's had 2 different stories about the amount of time it's going to take. One place says 6 hours and another is 2 hours. Which is the realistic one?

You can do it in 2hours. Though i am sure SRT is aroung 5 hrs.

Personally if it was my garage it would be SRT + 40%

Wont be telling you's what i do for a living

I think it's more a case of the time it can be done in if you know the relevant short cuts or are very competent, what you then charge is a different matter especially if the "book" time is 5 hrs and you can do a proper job in circa 2 hrs.

If a reputable garage that your mate knows has a good repuation is only going to charge 2 hrs labour + parts + vat then get it done their, why pay an additional 3 hrs labour for the same job??

I was going to say about 4 hours although, as been said before, I think it could be done in 2 hours or maybe even less pulling all the stops out.

Garages (stealers especially) take the ****, make up some sort of time it will take at barmy+vat prices and then also make profit on the parts they get from the local factors!!!

My dad took his XJR (years ago hes got a corolla now) to a Indy to have a few bits (he did 2k per year so needed tlc each year) and they screwed him on the parts and labour. All the parts he said were from Jaguar and it turns out they were from my mates factors and he had trebled the price!! He only went to that garage because he had been ripped off by dealers and other Indys before!!

It used to be a long-ish job (i.e. 4-5 hours) as you had to drop the front subframe to separate the gearbox. Don't know if it still takes that long with the newer ones ...

He bought the car from Carcraft along with their all singing all dancing parts and labour warranty. He had the car for 6 weeks when it picked up a squeak whenever the clutch was engaged. He took it back and they decided that a new clutch was the cure . Anyway typically, they are being a pain with actually doing the job and they keep giving him different excuses about various aspect of the job including telling him on one phonecall that they will give him a loan car as the job will take 5 hours and on another - he will have to go and wait as it will only take 2 hours.
Regardless off all this - it's only a squeak and the clutch realistically has another god knows how many thousand miles, but they did say they'd sort it
