Audi A6 - where to find
Looking for an Audi A6. 2.4, tdi or 2.8. around the £4k mark. Automatic only. Anyone any tips, things to look out for. No 'alternatives' please, an A6 it is.
Apart from autotrader/exh&mart/ebay etc. Are there any specialists that don't advertise on autotrader? Will auctions give me something good for £4k? Any places in the South East to check out etc.?

Anyone any advice on these cars?
Prob looking at around £6k now I think. Better choice I'd say.
Are all the engines ok, looking at 2.4, 2.8 or 1.9TDi. 1.8T and 2.0 too weedy, 2.7TT prob cost too much to run. Quattro's OK or prone to probs?

Took me ages to find my A6 Avant 2.5 Tdi SE. Found it in the autotrader mag, prestige cars section!! Found by chance as I was looking in the estate section mainly. That's a rare and sought after version, not sure about the ones you're looking for, but just keep an eye on the trader, maybe set up an alert on the website. Unfortunately many go back to dealers to sell on, as people trade in and stick with Audi, understandably IMO. So keep an eye on dealers too.

1.9TDi's cost quite a bit more than the petrols, so its only worth the extra outlay if you plan on doing a lot of miles.
2.4 and 2.8 will return similar MPG, and are both smooth and quick - this might be your best option if you only plan on doing a low-ish mileage. Would make the car very nice to drive, and these are probably mainly auto's whereas most of the smaller engines are more likely to be manual.
I dont think there'll be any 2.7's in your price-range.

I owned a 2.8 quattro for a while - nice and quick when wound up but a bit of a wallowy old barge and you can really feel the weight when you chuck it about. a nice motorway cruiser - sit at 120 all day (on the autobahns)
having said that i paid 3.5k for mine with 144k on it all leather and all the toys and it never skipped a beat.
i sold it because it was a right thirsty old thing - then i bought a car with a real drink problem - A Subaru
