Yes they are that quick, just watch any video of a PPP newage trying to take one on and it gets beat hands down from standing start, around a track, depreciation, you name it.
The subaru just isn't as raw and is a better 'day to day car' for a normal working man who enjoys a blast every now and then IMHO.

I had a quick 30 min test drive spin in a Evo VIII MR340 and it is a fast motor. Not keen on the interior but it's exterior is gorgeous IMO , this one was red with black wheels . However i like some other Scooby drivers found the whole driving experience to be shy on any level of driver involvement, all personal preference and all, not to my liking though.

You've got to compare the costs too. What price is a new FQ-340 and what is a Spec C? If they are roughly the same and the FQ still beats it then, for the money, the FQ is the better performer.
Servicing is a nightmare, it guzzles even more petrol and the suspension can be a little skippy on bumpy roads.
Would still love one though

TOG: it's not hard to blag a test drive of an Evo when you're turning up in a scoob . Know your stuff so you can ask some decent questions then deploy lines about how you find your scoob and then soon enough you're out for a test drive .
I can see your difficulty, turning up all chaved up, essex boy (racer), how your life must suck

The attraction to an Evo for me was that I like everything about the car as standard and it is very easy to tune to 400 BHP. That way I don't throw money at excessive mods. I have a short twin scroll manifold, a 400 BHP capable turbo out the box, front mounted intercooler on sensible pipe lengths, fuel injectors that are about 10% bigger than the Subaru - and needed and a very nice steering rack. Also being a UK car it is cheap to insure/easier to buy/sell. I'm sure the T25 would be nice, but the power band of a tuned Spec C on its stock turbo doesn't appear to match that of an Evo IX. Comparing my plots to webbie's dyno plots it appears identical to about 4500 then the Evo just holds the torque a lot longer and this is with just fuel pump, exhaust and remap. The fuel pump is uprated on the IX already and possibly not necessary.
Both are very nice cars, and I don't think there is really much difference between them all these days. What the Subaru gains on one hand the Evo does on the other. Personal preference.

I have seen his mates phone video clip of it and the EVO launches before our man tripple, but he does then pass him and maintain an edge in front of the evo. Obviously with AWD turbo cars the launch is crucial and with first being gone so quickly, the driver is a crucial factor

Either
a) You're winding us up because there is no way you'd be embarassed in a spec C in terms of straight line speed by a FQ340
b) You must know full well it's been tuned and I'd also suggest you it'd need to be be tuned beyond 400bhp to embarass you.
Honestly, these scooby baiters aren't even original these days!

My dad kept up with an Evo FQ300 along a very twisty back road between our house and the nearest town (Newbury). Every straight it pulled away, every corner we got back. My dad knows every braking point i think, having driven it every day for the past 14 years! When we got to Newbury he gave us the thumbs up and thundered off down the dual carriageway.
Bugeye WRX btw, thats the slow one

The map that WRC had put on my car did 380 BHP with safe fuelling and no detonation at low boost on conservative rollers even if they read a bit lower than their own. Having said that it didn't have all the kit on it that they say you need for 400 BHP, so it did what it was advertised as doing and did it safely. I can only say from this that I think their work is sound from this (single) example I've assessed carefully.
