Merc CLK320 or a BMW 330ci
Was toying with the idea of changing MY00 Impreza for a similar aged (W reg) slight face-lifted Merc CLK320 or Beemer 325/328/330ci. Has anyone any opinions of them, which is best? I prefer the Merc, but have a feeling the Beemer is seen as the better drivers car. Whats to look out for faults wise on them? Thanks

Old man had a pre facelift (ummm... no indicators in the wing mirrors) '99 320CLK. Pleasant, smooth engine, only swift-ish, ferociously fierce initial bite on the brakes (v difficult to brake smoothly), v. basically equipped, nothing special handling-wise, that's about it. The exhaust back boxes are painted black and they all seem to flake v quickly, and the varnish on the alloys blistered easily.
Fine, but don't get one thinking it's a sports car.

Not exactly the cars you were interested in but in Autocar 1/11/00 they put the 330i saloon vs the C320 Merc. They reckoned the Merc was better overall.
If you're interested PM me and I'll email you a link to the article.

I have run both and currently have a CLK230 2001 and would not go back to a BMW, I went for the 230k instead of the 320k mainly because fuel economy is better and power is not that different, I think servicing is slightly more expensive for the Merc, however at 10,000mile intervals its not too bad.
I'm currently selling the Merc to go back to another Jap.... I do miss em'

I have owned both.
Merc nice to own and cruise.
BMW unquestionably the drivers car to own.
In terms of cost nothing much in it.
I have only found one BMW dealer that is not a completely arrogant twot.
