Been thinking about a good replacement for my 94 WRX wagon and I think I have overlooked a massive, most powerful, good for UK wet roads, and less by racer-ish answer:- the R32 GTR.
Any good comments gratefully received before I spend 8K on a 12 year old skyline(!!!) - and please dont say classic Sti 6 years younger

No doubt that the R33 is a great car though, because it is amazing
The R33 GT-R is not only bigger than the R32, but also 50kg heavier, which is generally not really useful concerning active ability. The more weight, the more you have to move - in any respect. Since the engine has not been changed that much, except for higher peak-torque, it is no surprise that the new GT-R makes the sprint from 0-60mph in "only" 4.9 seconds, two tenths of a second slower than the R32 GT-R.The clutch is all sportive, though you really have to push it hard.

I also considered an R32.
In the end I just couldn't justify £8k on a 16 year old nissan despite how capable the car was.
My cuz has one though and loves it.

The R32 may be slightly long in the tooth, but it is by far the coolest Skyline, IMHO. It has the strongest block and the electronic aids are somewhat less 'intrusive' than on the R33 (which does look a bit blobby to me, even the R34 has gone back to the original cars (R31, 32 etc) more edgy roots.
However the week point of the R32 with out a doubt, are the brakes. Though this was somewhat rectified in the V (victory) spec models.
For me the Ultimate GTR would be a V Spec in White, running on 17" (no bigger!) BBS or Blitz Technospeed rims. HICAS lockout bar to disable the rear wheel steering, this helps make the car more predictable. Ad a grid dancer for those pure RWD moments...
As for the motor, I'd stick with the twin turbo set up, A Pair of HKS GT2530's. Apart from sorting the breathing (M's induction kits), Trust downpipe and BRacing titanium system....your ready to go....once you have sorted 100 other bits n bobs, hey ho the downside is Skyline ownership can be costly....Do it right and you will have so much fun.
Oh and keep the orange indicators
(could not find a pic with the BBS rims)

I have spoken to quite a few people who have changed from an Impreza to a R33 GTR, and have been very disappointed. Not as quick as they are made out to be.
Would still love a Midnight Purple R33 though!!!!

good for UK wet roads
Great cars though, excellent driving position and feel. Stage 1 + is a must though.
This is a great looking GTR http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/69894.htm
