Default Scoob gone! CTR is here!

Sold the scoob on friday and picked up the Civic type-r in the afternoon. I am so happy with it. The car is really nice to drive. Vtec is fun too. Not like the kick of my old WRX but still nice.

The main reason for the change was due to the scooby being 12 years old. I was fed up of worry about when it will blow etc. Also only got to use it weekends due to milage i was doing in the week... 106 has gone too so now just the one car. Will save on insurance, tax and servicing etc (hopefully). Petrol seems to be ok to.

Don't get too excited, that clip is clearly staged. I do not believe for a second that a car with 43BHP more, 50:50 weight distribution, RWD, AND lighter is slower round the track then the CTR. ALthough in a straight line in the real world, not much in it really.

thanks

Nice one, did the same a few years back but a 30AE (in black as its the fastest colour). Great cars cant fault them for the money, but back in Scooby now !
Have a look at http://civictype-r.co.uk/phpbb2/index.php - lots on info in there !

the s2000 is heavier, suffers more drivetrain loss than a fwd.

Owning an S2000 and driving a CTR whenever mine is in for services etc i think its pretty clear the S is faster, and that clip is staged. Granted straightline they are about the same till 80odd, but going round corners there is no way the CTR is faster.

The muppet driving the S2000 is clearly a **** - NO S2000 before MY06 came with traction control, therefore I have no confidence in any of his abilities. ALSO the other driver is plato lol!! He'd probs get round faster than that mong in the s2000, in a standard civic.

the ctr is easier to drive fast, the S is defo quicker - I had both - but requires more skill and brain effort on the limit by far!

You're right on the transmission. probably right on the weight, to be honest, i was guessing about the weight thing

Still, S2000 will win round a track. day to day situation.....im not so sure

Clearly staged, S2000 would beat the CTR any day of the week!

grahamg, cracking cars the ctr, engine, performance, the lot. but i reckon anyone who has had a scooby and likes performance cars will get bored of a naturally aspirated car and regret the change.

My scoob will get to 60 quicker than that. Never knew a ctr was so slow. 0-40 in 5.8. must be about 9 secs 0-60 then.

IIRC the track is damp/wet in that clip - not watched it again. The S2000 is a real handful in those sorts of conditions and I'd fancy the confidence of fwd would allow you to go faster in non-professional hands. In the dry the s2000 would beat a ctr round a track.

Agree BUT if plato was in the S and that muppet in the CTR it would have been a different story... IF it wasn't scripted for the cameras (which it clearly was)!

Must say it diddnt look particularly staged, maybe if it had been on Top Gear..

The last corner was a classic

Respectfully disagree with that. Had a scoob myself, 99 classic, sold it due to various reasons, went to a BMW 530I, enjoyed wafting around, but didn't really like much else about it and reliability, so moved over to CTR.

CTR is noisy, unrefined, and turning circle is awful.

BUT, it is cheap to run, cheap to main dealer service, practical and above all else, FUN.

I've recently gone from a CTR to an S2000, my S is quicker in all aspects than the CTR was.

CTR I actually enjoyed driving more than I did my Type RA, love the screaming note of the Honda at 9k

I've gone from a CTR and S2000 to a Scooby and TVR Griffith .....

When I had the two Hondas I loved them both. I found the CTR felt quicker than the S2K but in reality once on the move the S2K was quicker. I prefer RWD so found the S2K great but, having said that, the FWD set up of the CTR is stunning - I could hammer both cars and they responded very adequately thank you!

I miss both for different reasons and find the Scooby - a MY05 WRX PPP - though quicker, much softer and not anywhere near as involving ..... I know if I had an STi that would almost certainly be different but I need a wagon/estate to go with the impractical TVR so an STi was out of the question.

Enjoy the CTR and Vtec it when you can - some hate them but I would go back to Hondas without a doubt ..... my ownership experience was only 100% positive. The cars did nothing wrong - I just get very easily bored and waste far too much money swapping cars all too regularly !!

Have owned an S2000 and a Scooby, would disagree about the Honda's being all noise and nothing else. Having test driven the CTR too I love VTEC, its not everyone's cuppa tea granted but I never tired of winding them up to 8K

I guess it depends on the type of driver you are, but Honda reliabaility and generally better fuel economy, I would have either one over another Scooby tbh.

In fact with the MY03 S2000 prices softening a bit, I am sorely tempted to get another one

Bat, there is nothing to defend. The S2000 is front engined, rear wheel drive and the driver and engine are near the centre of the car so it has excellent weight distribution. It beats the CTR through the bends on physics alone. I suppose you think a TVR Cerbera would thump an 911 turbo by the margin clarkson demonstraited

I can see how some people wouldn't get along with vtec but I love it and I enjoy the S2000 overall more than my classic shape scooby. My scooby had 275bhp and the s2000 is as fast except off the line on a launch. The s2000 brakes better, turns in better, grips better but can be unsettled more by mid-bend bumps and always threatens to switch ends on you if you take liberties. They all have pro's and con's so best to write down what you want from a car and be clear of that in your mind before trying a few

Well actually we were pointing out that one person was indicating that the driver of the S2000 was a nobody compared to Plato, which is far from the case.

And you yourself said the S2000 would have won had it been dry - which I take to mean that you dont disagree it could have been beaten in the wet.

I think we can all agree that such tests are staged for the camera and probably the culmination of several laps put together to make an all action lap.

Simon.

I think with two top class drivers both going at it then the S2000 would probably still win in the wet so in that regard yes I think it was probably 'staged'. However, average driver for average driver out on the road I'd fancy the CTR in the wet.

0-60 is 6.4secs in facelift CTR. so not too shabby, will give a standard WRX a run for its money
