What to buy next??

What to buy next??
Having sold the Scoob I fancy something different. I have about £13,000 saved up and I can add to that with a small loan. Dont really want to go over about £18,000.
I have considered the following and just wondered what other people thought?
Lotus Elise (Series 1 111s or series 2)
Vauxhall VX220 (turbo / non turbo)
Honda S2000
M3 new shape (yes I know these are a bit more money!)
Porsche Boxster
TVR Tuscan
FYI I would need it as an almost daily runner during the summer. My commute to work is only about 5 miles. Obviously I would also use it for trips up the coast / camping aswell.
Any technical info, personal experiences of the above cars? Fuel consumption / servicing costs etc?
Thanks
Simon

What do you want from a car Simon? Important question
Comfort?
Realiability
4 seats
trackdays
long distance drives
You know the kind of stuff im talking about.
If I was in the same position I would be looking at an Exige but then I might use a car differently to you........

Not bothered about comfort, I want a driving tool.
It has to be reliable, i am not mechanically minded myself.
2 seats is no problem.
Wont be doing any track days.
No real long distance drives planned. Maybe the odd trip out on a sunday but nothing to far.
I like the idea of the Exige but I thought they were a bit out of my price range.

Much as I love TVR's I dont think you are looking for a tuscan ..... M3 is also out of your price range. I think the MK1 exige is a better car than the VX or the elise (personal opinion) ...... Boxter would be good but you wont get an S for that money will you? S2000 are quite nice
Still the exige for me though

The rest are well in my price range. £16,000 would get me a nice series 2 Elise or an even nicer VX220 or a reasonable Boxster. The Honda if anything is more expensive.
Gutman,
I like the Exige too. After you mentioned it I went on Tesco online an got an insurance quote. Surprisingly it was the same as the one I got for the Elise. It has got me thinking. My only concern is that I wanted the option of having the roof down.
I keep trying to persuade myself to get the S2000. My mate works for Honda and says he could get me a good deal on one. I think it will be a bit more "comfortable" than the ELise with a few more toys. Everytime I look at one I want to like it but I just dont think it is a good looking car.
If im honest im a bit of a poser and I want an individual and unique car which the Exige certainly is and the Elise is to a large extent. I would save myself a bit of money and get a VX220 but I cant help thinking that I would go out to it in the morning and wish I had the Lotus.

I'd think about taking the S2000 personally, but then given a bit more money I would probably look at an Exige S2, but buy one of them and I would want to take it on the track to get the most from it.

I'd go for the best elise the budget will stretch to, personally I'd pass on the S1 exige as they are a little more focussed and I'd prefer the option of roof off motoring.
As a driving tool the elise is a great little car, not the fastest, but feels special to drive.

How about a Nissan 350Z..?
Lovely 3.5 litre V6, 276 bhp, great handling and loads of fun. The boot is reasonably practicle, you can get two full size golf bags in there. It's a great car for having fun in, but you can switch it off, which I found hard in the Scooby.
I swapped the Scooby for one last year, I wanted something a little more refined, comfortable on longer journeys etc. I also get 30mpg on the m'way!
Suppose it depends on what floats your boat, but I found the S2000 too revvy, you need to really work it for maximum pace. The 350 is a lazy power machine, it will accelerate in any gear, which I find a lot easier.
Maybe I'm getting old

Simon, you only need to listen to an exige on full chat with a naughty exhaust to know its the car for you........ I'm gonna own one sooner or later. It also doesnt have the hairdresser image of the Elise.

Si,
roof comes off the Exige £1000 factory mod or £400 on ebay. easy to fit. My user name hints at my cars and the exige is by far the most fun of the lot. If it's a second car you're after or you only drive high days, holidays and trackdays go for the lotus. If you want a great all rounder, I love the M3 or what about a 964 Porsche 911.
As mentioned it all depends on what you will use the car for.
(ps. didn't read entire thread so apologies if you've stated this already)
PS. e46's are now in the high teens so not out of your budget!!!
