i'm going to get rid of the scoob fed up getting ripped off with fuel costs and it's getting a bit old now.
i'v been looking around for something thats a lot of motor for little money.

on my quest i'v been looking at the alfa gtv they look good good quite well and seem to be very low on mileage.
thay do seem to be to go to be true as a good one is only around three grand all leather int air con etc does any one no if there is something i don't know? i know that reliability is an issue but is there any reason why i should avoid this motor any info would be a great help

I had one, 3.0 GTV, wasn't the most reliable car ever! ate the gearbox and had a habit of destroying the air flow meters. The dealers are utter rubbish so find a reliable specialists.

When it did work though, my god it was a cracking car, lovley interiors on them although the windows didn't shut properly sometimes...It'd give a scooby a run for it's money once it was rolling believe me!

It's an italian car so I guess you have to expect them being quirky!!!

The boot's a joke too as are the back seats,

There is a company in West London called Autodelta they did a lot of work on my wifes Spider. they have a website and lots of tuning and styling options.
They serviced this car for us back then as the dealers were rubbish and could not rectify faults up to even the third attempt.

friend has a twin spark version. Looks gorgeous, still! But he has forked out so much for the car - new gearbox was one item. This was on a 1999 model.

In all he's spent well over £3000 in repairs.

They looks soo nice, and I'd see it as a tempting proposition if they weren't inherently high maintenance.

An FTO is a good alternative. Looks similar, goes similar and has Jap reliabilty.

I had the V6 Lusso.... If you have kids dont bother, as you would need them to be midgets to get them in the back.... fuel costs can be steep if you only do small trips... insurance group 19, cam belt change is an engine out job.... water pump is an engine out job.... looking at about a grand a time if not more from an afla stealer..... seats are not very supportive....

if you choose a good one then they are class, amazing v6 rumble... choose a bad one and it is worth becoming best mates with your bank manager... mine needed 5K of work in one year on the engine alone.

blimey they sound a bit naughty i'v spent 1000's on the scoob so was hoping not to go down that road again thanks for all the info i'm getting a bit scared now don't know what to get i'v only got £3000 to play with

The 2.0 one is slow, one tried to pull away from me on the M6, guy showing off to his girlfreind, couldnt pull away from a Saab 9-3 LPT (150 bhp), you need the V6 which will be as dear to run as the Scoob and fall to bits. Avoid old Italian cars unless very very committed enthusiastic or masochistic, ditto Fiat Coupe turbos !

Mate of mine had a '98 2.0 and he had to spend a surprising amount on it, even tho he didnt have it long. Not a cheap car to run, but they do have a lot of style.
