Question A question for all you Nurburgring buffs?!!

What kind of time would an F1 car throw in?? I know it's probably been asked before but i'm just interested. I've just been watching the video of the Radical breaking the 7 minute barrier and it got me thinking what an F1 car would do!

Have to be set up well though. A standard F1 car probably wouldn't make it round a single lap. Current F1 cars are designed for smooth tracks, not bumpy ones. I daresay if they could set one up well and give Schumi the keys, he'd be bloody fast.

easy faster than that,i would guess it would take 2/3rds of the time of the fastest road car.

I'd read somewhere that if you could make the F1 car stick, you'd be looking at a 4m30. The thing is, you can't get rid of the bumps!

Well Lauda's time in practice in the 1975 GP was 6'59". Surely the best bet is to compare a 1975 F1 lap time at another circuit which hasn't changed in the last 30 years to it's current F1 lap times (Spa?, Monza?). Work out as a percentage then deduct from 6'59".

I find 4'30" unlikely.

Most tracks are nothing like they were.

In fact the ring is now shorter than it was for the 70's GP......well it could also be longer, but it'll never be the same.......yu get me

Its such a shame they dont race the full track instaead of the shortend version. Forget safety, its a dangerous sport whatever track your on.

I remember reading about some hyper rare exotic one of porshe race car doing a 6.30 and thats th fastest record ever, so it has to be possible.

I believe the record is 6'14" in the Porsche 956. Can't remember the driver -- it was Derek Bell's teammate I think (Jacky Ickx? Stefan Bellof?)
