e39 M5 on track!
I took my e39 M5 (totally standard) for a couple of laps around Bedford GP circuit last saturday while the tyres were being changed on the track car. I was absolutley amazed by it, i took it fairly easy as i didn't want to wreck the tyres or brakes, but the handling was so much better than i had imagined. I really thought with all the weight at the front it would understeer like mad, but it didn't, It was very neutral and perfectly balanced, loads of grip and stepping the back out and controlling it was effortless!! An absolute hoot to drive, i just wish i could afford to track it properly!!
Without wanting to start an argument, I can honestly say that it out handled a standard scooby by a mile

We didnt get there till after lunch and then left around 3pm so might have missed it on the track. The old black 535i on slicks was running really well..........impressed with that.

Austen,
I took my M5 on track a Donington and also to the Ring. They are a good track tool if you allow for the slightly below par brakes. In the wet at Dono it was comfortably quicker that Escort Cossies, Imprezas and some Caterhams that were on track at the same time.
A very impressive package.

Austen,
Very little to be honest. I did 15k miles on the same set of pads, disks and tyres, including the track days. I then changed the disks and pads. However, the car had done 42k miles on the originals.
Tyre wear is only as bad as the driver makes it. The edges of the front tyres feathered slightly, as did the edges of the rears (but to a lesser degree). I was running the Dunlop SP8080, which are standard fit. Not as sticky as PZeros, but longer lasting.
It's not a bad tool at all, the only downside being that it just about managed 7mpg on track. LOL

Nice one Austen!
I look forward to seeing the car in the flesh sometime this year. It's a shame about those brakes, but there's no point spending wads of cash on them just to have to buy half the stuff all over again (mounts & bells).
Have you considered an M3 setup? A pair of discs are dirt cheap, I'm led to believe. Many of the 200SX boys use them and re-drill them to fit.
