Red face Spam buying my car or not?

Put my car up for sale on the net and got a strange reply....

The guy who wants to buy the car hasn't seen the car! But wishes to buy it for a client, for my asking price....

Now he asked for all my bank details.... I smelled a rat and said I'd prefer a international cheque or cash thinking that this would sort out if was cosha or not!
To my suprise he has agreed to post a cheque in Euros....

He just needs my Full name, Address, and phone number.....

Any body ever had an email like this?

Cheers for any advice

Plums.

P.S. without naming and framing the guys email starts mikeautos_traders@

Sounds fishy mate. I dont recognise the email but I have had a few of these type emails in the past. I would rather miss a couple of potential purchases than loose the car or hand out personal details like that. A real buyer will turn up eventually.

Sounds like a scam.

The question you should be asking yourself is "why would someone pay FAP for my car, without seeeing it?" If you have a Ferrari 250 GTO that's had a well publicly decumented life and rebuild than it's (just) possible. Even then i wouldn't be taking a Euro cheque. Bank transfer's fine. If you're selling a £2000 Vectra then think SCAM!!!

Take the cheque and cash it then tell him the bank requires 6 months a Euro cheque to fully clear and offer him a refund after 6 months if he is not happy.

Red face

I've asked for all of his personal details....

Full name, address, fixed and mobile telephone number, what shipping company he will use etc.

the car I'm selling is a Honda Accord Tourer Type S 2005 with 6000 kms.

..... I'll see what he replies!

Thanks for your views!

That will turn out to be a dodgy cheque AFTER its cleared and then the bank will take the money back AFTER you have parted with the goods so you will be left with nowt

Similar scam with Western Union money transfers I seem to remember.

Also, the cheque will be for too much, you will then be asked to send the difference, which will clear and they will not only have not sent you money, they will have your car and have change...

Run, Run away, Run like the wind......

I am sure banks only have 6 months to claim back on a cheque hence the 6 months above.

Yeah, these are very common on the high end mountain bikes etc. We have to be very careful on our boards with things like this as people are always getting dodgy emails like the one you have received. Avoid. If you have to ask the question, I think you already know within yourself that somethings not right.

Its would be quite amusing if there was a well publicised spate of scammers being found in bits in shipping containers, might put them off.

That one from siege smith is utter rubbish! Not even a worthwhile effort, could of at least ran a spellcheck on it! No wonder these muppets aren't employed and have to attempt to scam a few quid!

Bugger me...

You get an email like that and you have to question it - like different names, spelling mistakes, asking for zip code etc etc...

We wonder why people fall for scams, then they get an email like this and still have to ask the question. Sorry plums, but I suspect it's a desire to sell your car that makes you want to believe - as it's nonsense...

Email him and suggest he takes some geography lessons.
