AE86 progress update, MOT preperations...
My AE86 has been away for some time getting its 2-way diff fitted, by the time I got it back the MOT was due.
Unfortunatly 2-way LSD's and Rollcages do not add up to plus points on the pass sheet and basic things that the old girl was lacking do.
With the due date soon, I have been working hard to get her road legal as that was one of the things I promised to do to her when I bought her. None of this shady stuff, I wanted to roll her into any MOT station and walk out with a pass.
So Behold! The brand new Avon ZZ3 tyres on the back wheels
Behold! The sexy new horn pushes which were procured from Demon Tweeks and wired up today.
Behold! The JDM washer bottle procured from Dogs Danglies at the start of the week, held in by lovely cable ties because someone had cut the previous bolts holding the old one off at the heads
Behold! the squirty goodness gushing forth onto the windscreen after wiring the pump and the washer jets back to the bottle and pressing the "Squirt* button.
Behold! The replacement fueltank, procured from Driftmoto some time ago and wired into place, using non rusty fuel pipes and chucking the crap ones into the bin. No more seepage from the seam here, thank you very much!
But here's the best bit....
Behold! the comprehensive welding work done by Julian Smith of Watford Motorsport's fair hand to the rear trailing arm mounting points. His work is top notch to say the least and it also concludes the work that needs to be done on the car with regard to structural rust.
As of now, my AE86 is as solid as a rock
Its been so long since I've done this sort of thing, I've forgotten the simple pleasure you get when you do work on the car and then stand back and admire the results.

edited to get the links right.

Rear wheel drive Toyota Corlla AE86's are like rocking horse ****e now. Far more AE86 GTi's were front wheel drive (was this the only car ever offered in either front or rear wheel drive?) and the remaining RWD cars were sought after for Clubmans rallying through the late nineteen eighties and all of the nineteen nineties. They make an ideal drift car if thats your thing and their value has gone through the roof in Japan where theyre regarded as a classic.

oh yes, I've left that 500 quid Nitrous kit, 50 quid fuel tank, 10 quid gasket set, 350quid 2-way diff, TRD airfilter and heater matrix laying about on my drive for the last 6 months now!
*whisper* or perhaps all of that lot is now fitted to the car and I was putting it in front of it to show it all before it was fitted

They probably won't be around long though as they start falling to pieces and there are no spares to fix them
Any other production cars that were available in both FWD or RWD as standard models?
