Default Golf mk4 2.8 4motion

Hi there,

Anyone own one of these or know anything about them? Would be looking at a budget of around 9-10K

Thanks.

Martin.

Weighs as much as a small planet. Smooth, quiet & quite fast - great on the ,'way. Guzzles plenty round town but overall a 'nice' car.
Seem to get overlooked a lot - but I quite like them.

New shape Vectra 3.2 GSi be better IMO. Newer, quicker, more efficient.....

Personal choice though.

Golf looks quite smart.

Pretty nice cabin with leather, aircon etc. Very heavy tho TBH... nice smooth V6 however and very planted. IMHO needs a kick with a Vortech supercharger lol.. then your looking at 10-15mpg maybe.

Good used prices and much cheaper than the R32..

Passat V6 4motions can be had for 4k!

My mate was looking at this and and Audi S3, drove both and bought the Audi, apparently although the Golf was 'nice' the Audi was 'fantastic', the fact that one couldnt get away from my lightly modded MK2 8 valve Golf speaks volumes, the Audi spanked it.

Yep, the S3's the one. had one running 292bhp with a re-chip... top car. Find one for around 12k with all the paperwork and your laughing. Lots to choose from. V6 no where near the likes of the Corrado VR6 for that 'v6' drive / engine note...

I have one. Fantastic fun. Goes quite well obviously not got the same kick as the scoob but pulls a lot stronger throughout the rev range. Mine has been rolling roaded at 224 bhp. Geared very low so the acceleration is blistering in any gear. Although it has 6 gears so cruises well. About as thirsty as the scoob. Insurance slightly cheaper. Servicing loads cheaper. If you need any more info give me a shout.

My wife has the Vectra 3.2GSi and I have the 4Mo, so I can give an accurate comparison.

The 4Mo is a better car to drive, more sure footed (especially in bends), the driver position is more comfortable, and the visibilty is WAY better.
The Veccy has way more toys, way, way, way more in this one... is more rapid once it's wound up, but the lack of 6th gear annoys me. any car with more than 200bhp (4Mo=204, Veccy=210) should have 6 gears.
The golfs boot is just daft, but any the veccys is cavernous.
The 4Mo's indicators work. Anyone who has driven a new vectra will know what I mean here.

Comfort factor - the Vectra is a big cruiser, the 4Mo has that comfort factor but 'feels' less enclosed

4Mo seats are better - I have the recaro leather in mine and the seats are just great, they hold you in and there is no fear of sliding around on them, the vectras, even thouugh they are more adjustable just don't seem to be as comfortable (that may just be me tho'!)

If you want to know any more gimme a shout!
