I had a 2.0 SRi and loved it. Perky enough motor and great economy and I actually really liked the looks. The V6 handles worse and is harder to work on but is faster and still returns decent economy. I'd personally try and find an SRi V6, though.

I would say the SRi 2.0 (have owned both)..... look at quotes for standard servicing jobs on a V6 compared to the 2.0... big difference.
Plus, the v6 would only have 167bhp.. and a decent 2.0 would pretty much keep up with it, not enough performance difference to warrant the extra costs in my opinion, bt the thats MHO.

Get a Saab 9-3, based on the Vectra but a bit more individual, plus the lowest powered LPT model is pretty much as quick (8 sec to 60) as the V6 Vectra but does 30 mpg plus.

I have been averaging 42 mpg out of my 2.2
HOW, my mate has an Astra with the 2.2 engine in and gets early twenties knocking about, unless yours is a diesel of course, very impressive if its a petrol.

I used to have a 2.0 Sri 140 with a few tiny mods and was more than happy with it, as someone else has pointed out the servicing costs of the V6 are criminal for not much better performance gain.

Agree with Big Col, LOOONG gearing on the V6, which is y u get good mpg on long runs.
All in, over 500 miles around town and mway, I averaged about 33 mpg.
Cruises at 80 with the consumption reading about 38 mpg.
Its very comfortable in the cdx, but the handling is ****e, wallows like a beached whale.
Motorway great, fast comfy cruise.
Around town/country roads ****e.
Shame you cant get hold of an Omega instead, much better car so I've been told.

Handles quite well too. EU4 motor so low taxes.

Back to Mondeo Vs Vectra agin.
Mondeo may have marginally better handling and a better chassis and so on.....but is this the reason you buy a car like this?? NO!!
Vectra feels and is a far more solid motor. Nothing is amazing but everything is very good. Mondeo is great in some areas but positively ****e in others.
A Vectra V6 is a damn lot of car for your money.

If you have no interest in the pleasure of driving the Vectra is a better bet. Otherwise the Mundano wins hands down.
For an A to B car, get whichever is cheapest.

The Vectra V6's feel every bit as solid the e36 3-series (323i SE) that I owned. The Mondeo however feels like a ****ebox with a good engine.

Quite possibly, but it drives 200% better than the Vectra.
Horses for courses, nothing wrong with the Vectra - it just isn't as much fun (driving) as the Mondeo

Fair play. If I'm in a car, doing alot of miles, mostly in straight lines the Vectra is so much a nicer place to be.
The thrill of driving a car like these two wears off within about a week of ownership, then it comes down to the cars ability to not **** you off.
