clio cup 182?
just been for a test drive in one of these, a 05 clio 182 cup.

they are asking £11K with delivery miles and offered me £2100 as a trade in for my veccy, which is about what i hoped/expected.
im giving it serious thought right now as i thought it was a cracking little car. its sensible whilst also manic when you want it to be. looks nice but not too OTT, i even quite liked the stripes and anthracite alloys.
any opinions, advice??

im having second thoughts as im not sure i want to shell out £11k on a clio, brand new it may be but the idea of £9k of debt is putting me off. £4-5k is fine and would be paid off in couple years but £9k would take me 5 years to do it comfortably. im going to have an in depth thought about it tonight.

i will look into slightly older models and see what comes up. i dont really want a brand new car but £11k is pretty good, or £11.4k with the leather recaro seats is even better. i looked on autotrader and there really wasnt a huge amount of decent ones in my area but ill keep my eyes out now that im in a position to buy something. im still slightly tempted but there is no way i can image me keeping such a small car for 5 years to even outlive the period of debt! i notice that people are asking for more 2nd hand ones with 10k miles than i am being offered a brand new one!
if the right impreza comes up at the right price i will just get that instead. my only problem is im not sure if i want the hassle of privately selling my vectra when im getting offered only £200 less for trade than id expect from private

New model Clio due very soon, although no hot version at launch. Expect old models to plummet. Cars like Clio 182's and Civic Type R's are great if you are a 20 something guy into your cars. Once above 30 they make a great car for the missus that you can take out on weekends

Well by the sounds of it your not in a great financial position, so why bother buying a brand new car and suffer great losses from depreciation, get a 2nd hand car for starters, even 1 year olds will save you a packet. But as people have said, you can get a Mk1 clio 172 for less that £5k.
I never buy a new car, i bought my CTR last year, 1 year old / 7k miles and saved £4.5k off the list price. Let some other mug suffer the initial depreciation I say

i can afford the monthly repayments of £200 but im not sure i want to buy such a new car and be in debt for the next 4 years. the price being offered is already £3k below list price, with the optional extra's, as its pre registered already so i would be the 2nd owner. i have checked prices on autotrader and in some cases 1 year olds are more expensive or about the same as the new one im being offered, again hence the reason im tempted.
i think im going to put my vectra up for sale and try and get a cash sale now and sort out a cheap 5.6% loan so im in a better position for haggling when the right car comes up. Im noticing you can pick up late 99/00 classic imprezas with 50k miles for not much more than £7k now so i think ill maybe try and go down that route, as i originally intended to
