Porsche Boxter running costs
A guy at work is thinking of getting one of these, but he is worried that the running costs will cripple him i.e. servicing and parts, insurance is actually cheaper than an Audi TT. He has been looking at a 2.5 ok not that fast but he is not that bothered about straight line speed as long as it handles.
Has anyone owned one of these and how do they compare to something like a TT or Subaru.
Any nasty surprised to look out for i.e. belts etc.
Thanks chaps!

Boxter is supposed to be one of the best handling cars ever made. Apparently the smaller engined version is the better of the two in this respect. I think running costs with be high in terms of servicing and fixing anything that breaks, but other than that not too bad. Will certainly hold its value better than a Scoob.

From my experiance so far, OPC, Basic service is about 300-350. I have only had one major service and it was just under £1000.
I would avoid 2.5s and early 2.7s as they had liner problems. Get a warranty. Check the RMS has been done. If they go wrong its often major and costs a lot to put right. My car has done 28k now and has been more reliable than my subaru... so they can be reliable too.

I've been looking at these too.
12,000 mile service at a specialist seems to be about £200
The dodgy liner problem should have been rectified on any 2.5 by now (check it has)
RMS (Rear main oil seal) £200-£300
Clutch £500-£600 - seem to last about 60k miles
Drove one at the weekend and it felt fab. Not that quick but handles so well and makes a great noise!
