I have driven an 03 plate 111s which i hope/believe has the toymota engine, very smooth and responsive, cant compare to a k series though cos i aint drove one boy. Not thrashy sounding at all just power top to bottom of rev range, i had the narrow minded opinion of elise's being a proper girlie motor but i am a convert now and no more will i snigger at a bloke in one

i think i would forget the badge and go for the VX220R with Turbo and 200+bhp. I test drove the cooking model (140bhp) in the wet and have never been so scared and excited ,at the same time, by a car in my whole life

I have the 111s - K series - sports exhaust, ITG Maxogen carbon intake system and no cat - sounds awesome, looks great and not even started to find it's limits yet - time for a track day at some point!

I have an S2 elise with full decat and induction etc.
You can really shove these cars around corners and that is the fun off it.
Having the decat and 4 branch manifold it makes the sound gorgous as well
Dissapointing sound as standard though
