Default Commuting Car >£10,000...Suggestions?

Hello.

Looking at a commuting car for around 120 miles a day on motorways.

Criteria:

Comfortable
As many toys as possible (leather, air con etc)
Handle mileage well
Reasonable economy
Quick but not too outrageous too insure. (maybe group 12ish?)
Not too bothered about image
Nothing small.
Not bothered about age (within reason)

At the minute im leaning towards a BMW 320 with a bit of mileage on it towards the top end of my budget unless anybody can give me a good reason not to?

Any thoughts?

Got to be a Volvo V70/S80 type thing. I commute 150 day in an XC70 D5, get 40+ but it is a diesel although good ( ) midrange. Petrol version below within budget with low miles. Mega comfortable, loadsa toys.

These are only a couple from ebay as an idea of what is available.

528/530 Sport, i had the 528 a few years ago and was really shocked that the economy was actually very good. Mid 30's to 39 on a run. Really good car, get the right colour and spec with full history and you cannot go wrong.

I sold mine to a mate and its still going strong 150k no issue's. Infact he exported it from London to Melbourne in OZ.

Wish I had kept it in some respects.

Honda Legend. Get a good one for 4k-5k. All goodies, auto only, 3.5 V6. You will be up on cash, spend the rest on something else. All is MPG is what your after fit LPG for under 1k.

Ding-dang-do.

I would go for Volvo - usually lots of toys etc for not alot of £££ Saab is the same. BMW is a bit obvious, although they are very good cars.

Not too taken on Passat's for some reason.

Quite like the Audi's though. Would you be wary of buying one that had done c.80k miles though? As long as it has been looked after?

I was going to spend 10 grand on the same thing, in the end I spent 6 grand

Bought a Mk4 Golf GT tdi - 55k miles, full VW history etc etc etc. Goes like a train, very comfy - 55mpg Im well happy - looks good, has all the toys. Chipping it up at jabbasport and putting a GTI badge on the back to play with all the maxxers Have a look at one. Easy to sell on and residuals good too.
