Another which car to buy thread - 8K budget
I can't make up my mind so need a few suggestions for an 8K budget
I was originally after a Disco but everything I've looked at so far has been rubbish. I then went for a test drive in a Toyota LandCruiser which I really liked and was in excellent condition but is a newly arrived Japanese import.
Then I looked in the Ford dealers next door and decided I really liked the new Fiesta because it looks cute but then saw a very nice 02 ST170, however we already have one Focus. Having said that another Focus is the sensible option and the ST would be a bit of fun too plus my other half will be really, really jealous .
This will be my work car too which involves some long distance motorway driving so I have to consider fuel costs etc.
What else should I consider? Don't suggest Vauxhalls because I'd get kicked out of the house if I came home in one
Do you follow your heart or your head??
Thanks

No experience myself but I'd heard that the ST170 engine wasn't very smooth / nice.
What's your criteria? No of seats? Boot capacity? Minimum mpg? Insurance costs?

Besides, a Landcruiser does about 17mpg from what i've heard.
DC2 Integra Type R is another option for £8k

Thanks for all the suggestions, I'll have a look on Trader for prices etc. Lol @ Mark, I used to really want one of those
I've just been out for a test drive in the ST170 and it was nice, a lot like our 1.6 but quicker with better handling Having said that I didn't get a good feeling on that particular car but the dealer has another one coming in soon which sounds better.
My only criteria is that it must have aircon, be under about 6 - 7 years old and have room enough for me, him and the dog.
I'm stuck between choosing performance or 4 wheel drive. 4 wheel drive suits where we live and where we spend our spare time very, very well and would be hugely practical for carting lots of junk around but, it means the car will be older and have higher miles whereas a hatchback or saloon will be a lot newer with less mileage...
I'm rubbish at making decisions at the best of times but this is really doing my head in now

I love Defenders Yours is really cool Jack, however most of them round here are farmers vehicles so have a slightly erm worn look about them.
I've been back on the Disco trail this afternoon and have found a quite nice R reg near Manchester...
My heart is definitely saying Landrover, unfortunately all my other cars have been 'from the heart' purchases and have all been rubbish, hmmmm.
