saw a few of these today at TOTB4.

Gotta say am a bit shocked that people were willing to pay the asking price for it.

Would it not have been cheaper to buy an Evo 260 and turn it into something similar for a lot less money?

They are spectacularly difficult to get along with. HUGE lag, then a massive hit in the back. Bit like a 2 stroke bike engine............nothing,nothing,nothing,WHAM!

Good fun though.

Daddy of what though? Depreciation?

There is a write up on the Evo forum and it is no quicker than the FQ340 IIRC due to it's terrible lag!

Just out of Interest can this lag issue not be solved by say a remap and a Turbo change?

Agree that for the money its a Con

FQ340 with a couple of thousand on mods would be faster

Hmm - to avoid warranty issues no doubt?
You'd have to fit an after market Motec then - but then that would mean a lot of money down the drain with keeping the M800 in the garage until you return it back to standard? - can it not be unlocked? - guess not?

From what i gather it is locked because the car comes with a 3 year/36,000 mile warranty

Probably because then subaru would have an over priced laggy car just like mitsubishi.
Why pay all that extra money for a car that isnt much better than the fq 340.

Now if that Motech was unlocked, and remapped, there would be little lag, more torque (and lower) and a gain of top end bhp.
Im sure a few owners have already had this done, as the warranty seems worthless.

The turbo is too big on it too, its oversized so it has to run less boost to last longer as its a dealer model.

If they had aimed for a responsive turbo which maxed out at 400bhp it'd be a damn sight quicker, but the turbo would wear faster.

How does the lock work on the Motec?

Could a friendly Motec dealer not just reset/reflash the ECU and voila? Granted you'd have to map it from scratch but you'd have a mappable ECU.

WTF are these dealers on FFS, i mean its not as if you are buying a 500 quid sh*tter, they expect you to part with over 40 grand yet wont give you a test drive, perhap's bacause they an over laggy bag of poo and a FQ320/340 would run rings round.

The arrogance of these jumped up little sh*ts in suits stinks!!!!!!

Even when i turned up in my 2003 WRX! I am sure the Evo is a good car but without a test drive i will never know. Subaru let me have an STI for 24 hours and it was superb. Looks like i will be getting an STI,

You must have crap dealers. Last time I turned up they gave me the keys and asked if I could be back in 30 mins as the salesman needed the car to go home in Then again I do know him from previous sales

If your near surrey I recommend Kingswood Mitsubishi, ask for Carey the Ralliart salesman.

Hmm

SoundS similar to a certain Bristol Subaru dealer back in 1999
Was booked in for a test drive and got there on the day to be told, sorry the demo has been sold - but anyway 'sir' you probably couldn't have afforded it anyway!!

Next week I had placed my order for an sti5 (fock Tileys and Subaru UK!)
