Am looking to spend about £9k on a diesel towcar and because of the excellent reviews especially on caravan forums the Mondeo tdci 130 which in most cases seems to be pushing out approx 145 bhp with a torque figure of 330NM was going to be the car at the top of the list. That was until yesterday when someone recommended a Volvo D5 which has 163bhp and 340NM of torque....has anyone any first hand experience of this volvo diesel???

Which Mondeo TDCi? 115bhp 130 bhp or ST 150 bhp?
Saloon/ Estate?
From a dealer or private?
Which D5? S40, V50, S60, V70 or S80?
A few more details may assist..........

Just had a hire car Mondeo ST diesel to go up to Manchester last Thursday. Never thought i'd say it but the drive was really surprising. Bags of torque for overtaking and really enjoyed going over Snake pass.
The MPG was 42 as well, just as shame it made soo much noise on tickover

you dont get a d5 s40/v50!

i had the mondeo 130, dont buy one, my had major engine problems.

get the d5 s60 or v70, great sounding diesel engine, big torque, very safe car, etc

and yes i do own a volvo now

Yes, many apologies...the model I'm interested is the Volvo S60 D5.

Lots are available for under £9k but they will have 50-70k miles on the clock for that amount.

Dave, the safety issue has never been my prime concern when buying a car in the past but after watching such programmes as Top Gear when they discussed Ncap ratings my thinking has certainly changed...maybe I'm just getting old
