Dont know much about them but I was in Smith Knight Fay in Stockport on Thursday, they had 3 in, the one I looked at had 10,000 or so miles on it and was 2 years old, they wanted 23,499 for the thing !
Is it me or is that a touch on the pricey side ?
I reckon its worth about 16 - 18 grand !

Lovely cars
Anything from 02 upwards & still strong money
I was looking to get one before i got the merc & it was a 53, 6k & they wanted 22k for it
Pull like a train & an impressive noise from the engine

Evo did an article a couple of years ago comparing R32,WRX,Coopers S,Rs Focus,Clio 172,Audi S3 and a couple of others that i cant remember. The upshot of the feature was the Golf came out top.
I think the prices reflect that they are not a common sight on our roads because they didn't produce a great deal of them, and Golfs do tend to hold their money.

I'm an ex R32 owner. They are very nice cars, but lack power, esp in the mid range. Moving from a WRX PPP to an R32 would be a step down in power. The exhaust note is easily a match for the Scooby and the interior on a different level. Ive now got a new GTI and prefer it to the R32 though.

My cousin has one and I've driven it a few times.
It will feel far slower than your scoob.
When you pull off in an R32 it feels full of power but then nothing really happens, the power delivery is very linear, it never seems to get going. It is quick but doesn't feel quick.
The Haldex system means it's FWD until the fronts start to loose grip so it's even more understeery than a standard scoob.
The brakes are not up to the car, my cousin says he's had a few near misses due to brake fade and it's a common problem on the VW bbs. £1300 brake conversion is the answer.
But the noise with a decent exhaust is better than a scoob IMO.
And the interior is first class although the climate control is set far too low.
Cheers

I think the new GTI makes it look a bit outdated, cant understand why anybody would pay 24k for a secondhand car from a VW dealer when the new GTI can be had for 20k ish
from the same place, better handling and as quick, the new GTI chipped can produce getting on for 300 bhp, I expect them to become a very common sight in the next 2 years and with good reason, VW (according to the motoring press) have got it right after 2 lame attempts (not including the R32), makes you wonder, if the GTI is so good, whats the R32 equivalent going to be like ?

I have owned a WRX PPP wagon for 2 years and test drove an R32 last year. I was underwhelmed TBH and it just made the drive home in my scoob feel even better

So I'd definitely advise anyone going from a turbo to an NA car to try it first. My V8 is super-smooth (it will pull from under 1000 RPM in 6th gear) but that adds to the feeling of it being slower. There's a small surge around 4000 RPM but nothing like the sudden rush of the Scooby when the turbo kicks in. Technically the NA engine is better as it's more linear and should be easier to balance on the throttle etc, but I think I prefer the turbo feel.
Just another thing to think about, unless you're actually racing sometimes a car that feels fast is just as important to enjoyment as one that is fast

I've had an R32 and now have an STI+PPP.
I also never found the brakes to be great despite many owners saying they were? - the STI Brembo's are WAY ahead of the R32's.
Something else to note - the R32 ride is very harsh - much worse than the STI so much much worse then a WRX!!

There was a good US comparison between the 2.5 WRX STi, EVO and R32 on the VWVortex site...
