Unhappy Loss of power on Golf Tdi

Not sure if anyone can help.
But...

Got a 1999 Golf Tdi 115bhp. 113k on the clock.

Car does a 110 mile round trip everyday on motorway, and it's suddenly started to lose power.

1st-4th gear seems fine, but the car will now struggle to go over 80mph in 5th/6th gear.

No engine warning lights come on, no excess smoke, no loud noises from turbo.

Any suggestions ?
I was thinking maybe a hose somewhere ?

Thanks
Johnny

I agree with the above - almost certainly the MAF sensor. You're lucky yours has lasted so long. I replaced mine with a Pierburg MAF, which is a common change and available from Merc dealers for much less than the VW part.

Part number 06A906461 from Merc I think

Careful about the Merc / Pierburg MAF, the consensus on the VAG boards is they are fine for the non-PD motors (the old 90 / 110bhp motors) but NOT for PDs. VAG now do exchange Bosch MAFs for about £75 - 80.

Also worth checking the intercooler plumbing in case of leaks etc.

Good luck ...

agreed with brickboy.. the Merc mafs have had some probs for PD engines.

p.s. dont forget special oil for the PD engines although having done that mileage I'm sure you may have had 1 or 2 services

Dave,

It was the MAF sensor, got it fixed a few weeks ago now, but thanks for replying.
