What car would you buy for £5k
As above, I am considering chopping ht eScoob in and buying a car at £5k for commuting and a bike for playtime.
So, the criteria is as follows -:
Must cost £5k or less
Thats it!
Suggestions?

Ford Focus.
Pick one up nice and cheap, good reliable run around, handles well, cheap to insure, can leave it anywhere and not worry about it getting a door dented or scratched etc. Will make you smile when you go for a blast down a country lane.

Seriously, have you thought hard? There are others that have regretted the decision - and with you oop north, you get less biking hours than the jesse southerners...

Have I thought hard?
Yeah, I guess I have. I've had 5 Scoobs over 8 years, and tbh, the car doesn't get used anywhere near it's full potential.
For the price of the Scoob, I could buy a car and bike outright.
I also just insured the Scoob the other day and for the £780 premium I could cover both car and bike easily.....
Not to mention that 19mpg is getting on my goat a bit. I can't imagine how much I've spent on Optimax over the past decade! lol

Taliz, according to your answer I'd also look at a Focus. I also sold my scoob as the only time it made me smile was when I was breaking the law. 205GTI OTOH was a laugh a minute when I had it... People say 306 GTI-6 / Rallye, too? Basically I'd go for a normally-aspirated hot hatch with a sorted chassis (which rules out Vauxhall etc).

My suggestions for <£5000
Sports cab
Mazda MX5
Sports coupe
BMW 328i
Sports saloon
Audi A6 TDI quattro
Sports medium hatch
VW Golf 1.8 T
Sports hot hatch
4 year old Saxo VTS / Early Clio 172
Bland / Sensible options
Smart Car
Diesel saloon (mondeo / vectra / 406 / C5)
However, you good go crazy and buy an E30 M3 for summer. I did, didn't loose a penny on it, and i could have sold it 10 times over. Recomended !

Can't add much to what's already been mentioned apart from possibly a Nissan 200SX - good RWD chassis, and I have to say if this weather keeps up an MX5 is well in order...
