Stolen Car Keys!!...advice please
Missus has just had her handbag stolen from work (*****)...thing is, she only has one 'proper' car key with the built in immobilisor...the spare is just a 'skeleton' key to open the doors. So, we can't start it!, as the scum have the keys anyway, I've disabled it and put the disklok on it for now, should they return.
Any body know what the next move is? Car is a Puma, on an 'X' plate, guess it will have to be towed to a dealer for new immobilisor/locks?
How should we claim, i.e., home or car insurance?
Any advice much appreciated as always, thanks.

Home insurance may cover it, but you will possably need to check up to see what cover you have.
You will then need to speak to the ford garage, they will probably tell you what you already know, new locks and immobiliser so not cheap (unless the insurance comes out tops for you )
I think your worst fear will be if your home address was in the handbag, and id inform your motor insurance co that your keys have been stolen, remembering that you have been covered for theft on your policy (they may pay for it but i feel your house insurance wont sting you for quite as much next year).

Thanks Tony,
Sadly she had her driving licence and house keys in the bag
Not quite so sad though, is the fact that I'm in all night with 4 shotguns and 2 rifles (all legal and licenced)
Kind of hope the alarm goes off later...not that I would use them of course...

You should have two chipped keys, but even if you have one, you still need to have it hooked up for a while to re-program it, as you need 2 keys to program more. Check with your insurer before going to see the dealer, I know that there was some link between ford and a couple of insurers whereby you could get your locks and keys replaced for a low fee, a bit like the windscreen replacement for 50quid thingy.

Deako; I doubt that your house insurance will cover cars keys; theyll tell you to claim on your car policy. Theres a good chance that your house insurance will cover the cost of changing your locks though; maybe even sending the locksmith out. Id suggest contacting your force licencing officer and telling him whats happened too; bearing in mind that you are responsible for the safe keeping; what will they say if theyre taken and entry to the house was umade using stolen keys?

Thanks Gents,
All sorted now, house locks changed and vehicle recovered to the dealers, and hire car delivered to the house (!)...house locks covered by home insurance and car locks etc, on the vehicle policy...and we found the driving licence in the gun safe!
Thanks again for the advice, its appreciated.

We had our car ceys stolen earlier this year when we where burgled. Did not take the car.
I contacted our hose insurers and they said it was a car insurance matter.
Called the car insurance co and the car had to go in to have the locks changed and the immobiler reprogrammed to the new keys - This is on a Honda.
I would contact you car insurers ASAP!
