Thinking of an Audi TT...
Anyone had one? What are they like to live with? How do running costs compare to a Scoob? I would only get a 225bhp model - is there much difference between the roadsters and coupes - apart from the roof, obviously

Now play nicely, the man is asking about the Audi TT, he does not want to be acused of being a Hairdresser, Gay or both.
James, every time that question is asked on here there is no chance of getting a straight answer, it always descends into homophobia. Its terrible and sooo predictable, its not on these days and people on here should be ashamed of themselves.
Anyway, what do you like about them, ducky......

Never thought I'd say it - but they look fantastic inside. A guy at work has just bought one and I am seriously impressed.
James - not gay and definately not a hairdresser...

a guy at work has one, hes had all the jokes thrown at him already, but he let me drive it the other day to shut me up i guess?
it was great, handled well (not as good as the scoob though ) it felt a little saggy going around corners at speed, didnt feel safe, you have to remember where this car is bred from!! remember the audi quattro? feckin brill cars.
the 4wd didnt feel great on the tt, but the engine really revved out

Went from Turbo 2000 to TT then straight back to WRX. Wife loves TTs.
Had the TT 1 year. Lovely inside. Great build quality. Great stereo. No fun to drive. Best thing was it held its value better than any Subaru I've owned. Wouldn't recommend them.

AUDI TT
I bought the girlfriend one about a year and she has clocked up over 20k in that time. She loves it. Its a 225 model and is certainly the one to go for. It pulls really strong from about 2k all the way to the red line. isn't like my scooby at all in terms of rush when the turbo kicks in. The TT is just smooth but deceptive.
Terms of running costs it has only cost £350 for a service and a set of tyres. Fuel consumption on a run to the lakes recently saw 35mpg but you can see low 20s if your going some.
What year are you thinking of getting and how much you looking to spend? Whichever one you get try and find out it history from audi. They have serious problems with the dash pod and at £750 for a new one its not cheap
Any questions or you fancy a test drive in the one we are selling let me know (blatant plug but hell why not)

Basically a Audi S3/Golf with a new set of clothes. Part time 4WD using the Haldex system that VAG uses on their Golf/A3 platform (rather than the 'proper' 4WD system used on the A4/S4/RS4 etc with Torsen diffs). Can be tuned to 350 BHP + and the Haldex can be sorted with a controller which locks it to 50/50 split.

A good car ...
NOT a quick one, unless you have the 3.2.
I have had a180 coupe as a company car for nearly four years and love it. Great build quality, the design is superb, and very comfy. It is not however a rewarding driving experience. But, it does get me to meetings etc in comfort and a fair degree of "style".
So, in conclusion, get the 225, as I am sure you will enjoy it!
Cheers,
Mossman (not a hairdresser and also has a Fabia VRs and a 190bhp Westie in the garage so cannot be accused of poor car taste ).

Not sure why anyone would choose a TT over a 350Z...inferior in every respect.

FWIW I can understand why they appeal to some people for the running costs (once bought) and deceptive, easy-going power delivery. That's if the 4x4 Skoda I had was anything to go off (Same power, 95% same engine, very similar Haldex 4x4, different badge)

Hi
There is a big difference between the Roadster and Coupe. The heavier Roadster will not give much more performance than a hard topped 185 bhp.
This is not hearsay. Until recently we used to run both 225bhp Roadster TT's and hardtop 185bhp TT's at the Brands Hatch Racing School. The roadster would not lose the hardtop on the run from Clearways to the braking area at Paddock (maybe very slightly) . The extra power is negated by the extra weight.
Good cars though, very well made if a little lacking in character.

It would wipe the floor with any standard TT.

I know you said you were "only" after a 225......but I drove a 3.2 DSG round silverstone on one of those driving days (more like 20 minutes ). I was surprised how well it coped - nowhere near as sharp as a scoob, but smooth, quick and quite grippy. I reckon it would be a relaxing everyday cruiser. I even liked the DSG box.
